Hello Steemians!
I've been wondering about the impact of my vote in general, about the responsibility that is bestowed on me.
Part of me wants to use my vote to improve the content discovery on steemit.com...which is something that has been kind of broken...partially because people like me don't spend time focusing on curating certain tags like the "photography" tag.
The other part of me wants to give a leg up for people who want to make the world a better place...whatever that means where they are. (something like this)
They are both meaningful and needed in this world. But it's difficult to do both...there is only so many hours in a day.
What would you do?
What would you do if you had 300,000 SteemPower? How would you spend your day? Where would you improve?
Good insightful comment on the matter will receive a good upvote.
By improving the system and spending time curating we help people help themselves.
When anyone is "helping" others the first thing I evaluate is whether they are actually helping that Person/Thing/Cause launch or creating a dependency. :)
No matter what you decide, I like the way you are thinking.
This is exactly why I stopped supporting certain Initiatives that’s I believe to have good intentions, but which are indiscriminate about quality or very hierarchical in nature. There are a few of these that I won’t name. I can’t say they haven’t done any good, but they’ve also turned a lot of users into bot addicts and created an image of steemit that causes some users to give up as the whole process is pretty inorganic.
I like your adopt a minnow project. I’m planning to do the same thing.
Why not encourage local NGOs with good social causes behind (that I know personally are honest and well managed) to create their own steemit blog and upvote all their content? So many areas and great causes that could hugely benefit from it like disabled people, cancer research, horphans, environment... I would definitely feel super well seeing my impact on it
I really like this idea. Im taking notes.
i think spend it on minnows who can curate great and insightful articles that help steemit , been a minnow is tough and having someone with much stempower to upvote you boost the morale
Wow, I am really inspired by your reply touched me so much that I so want to be actively helping others.....
So If I were to have 300k SP... I would support projects on steem that would help my investment grow. For example I run @paywithsteem. Projects like this need support to be able to continue development and not just on the announcement posts and I know this first hand through running this. I am not saying just to support one project you need to support ALL of them. This will help you in the long run by giving more uses for STEEM.
I would spend it giving small unsuspecting minnows who do an honest effort huge upvotes worth several dollars each, to completely blow their mind and make their day.
I remember when this happened to me the first times, it made a pretty big impact. I still get a boost out of it now, as well. A $1-2 upvote means the world to some people! Especially when they are neglected by everybody else!
I like this idea. Heck I remember when I first started and I also remember my first big upvote. It was super exciting. I was absolutely blown away by the reward for my work. Doing this for new small users could really drive a lot of loyalty to the platform.
I think you're absolutely right. That one or two dollar upvote can go a long way in terms of post-promotion too for minnows.. Suddenly they're able to afford an upvote bot, and stuff like that. That really speeds things up when you're small.
And thanks so much for those huge upvote, you all! They still make me tingle inside when it happens :)
It's not just the post promotional effect but also the posters own psychology that gets a big boost IMO. Those first upvotes are what really got me excited about steemit.
I have to agree that the psychological boost of an occasional phat vote can provide great benefits to the platform, by encouraging new users to stick it out and write good content.
Thanks!
Yep, I don't think many people take this into consideration. It's one of the reasons I try to leave small votes all over the place
The 'Stewards of Gondor' delegates of @fulltimegeek are really excellent examples of what I think could best profit the platform.
$300k in $5k delegations is 60 delegates, and that would produce a significant impact on minnows, were they of similar caliber as those Stewards presently representin'.
That would be awesome, a lot of people would appreciate that to the highest and guess what when they get such an opportunity they will like to do the same....very nice of you
Yes, this is true. Even as a big minnow, it still feels great to get a sudden and unexpected boost on your posts, especially when they take the time to read and comment. If I were a whale I’d try to do two or three of these a day.
Couldn't agree more with you @pandorasbox
You are exactly thinking the same thing that anybody would think for a while when he has so much responsibilities and value. Then in the second moment the answer comes, you have to be loyal to yourself and good to the society. Do what suits you and that helps developing someone. If i say about steemit, you have to do more smart work then the authors who arE publishing the material. Take out the better one out of the crowd. Atleast your soul will be happy , yahh i helped somebody well deserving.
I would spend it on upvoting myself and raping the reward pool, like any decent whale nowadays. After I have gathered enough, I would redistribute it to the minnows and poor people.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
One thing for sure, do not give that 300k to another whale 😂
With 300.000 SteemPower, I would:
If you can help out with your massive SP to support a project that improves curation and filtering, everybody wins. Even with 300K SteemPower you won't have the time to read every single post on this platform :)
Just a thought: if I had 300K SP, and my posts would bring around 400 comments per post, I would delegate some of the SP to someone I would trust and ask him to upvote and answer all the comments on my blog.
You forgot that one @fitzgibbon. 😁
How could I forget the obvious choice?
Trust someone to answer all the comments on your blog would be nice that way your building not only your blog but a family, you will go a long way with that
with 300k power you can make small community like thealliance in steemit or any other and help all their members , With small community its easier to maintain friendship with all and members can achieve faster results and help you too. Also you can delegate some power to open new curation guild like curie or new anti spam community like steemcleaners . ( right now they are a little outdated and dont implement new rules ) With this you can help others and receive some % back
Well I personally would power down half of it and put it into Bitshares, becoming a multi-millonaire a few years from now. But that taken aside :P
It's one of the issues I see with Steemit, a whale with a lot of influence (SP) needs to actively, on a daily basis, and manually, curate posts in order to benefit the Steemit platform as much as possible. This is however pretty much undoable, and why voting bots are so frequently used (well that, and circle jerking of course ^^). There should be a way to delegate your SP while still earning curation rewards, so someone who is willing to invest its time to curate, could potentially take a small cut. Secondly I believe voting should be restored on a weekly basis, having 70 votes a week (intead of 10 a day) which could (if choosen to) be spent all in one day. < This one might bring some complications with it, but it's open to debate.
I know... this doesn't really help you answer your question... xD
power down :)
I will build a upvote bot and help the community and earn as well! I saw a lot of bots are cheating for others funds, so I will try something honest and earning can be used to build a project or a Token project when SMT hits!@cryptoctopus,
Cheers~
Oh I wish you have more steem power and use it for good causes.
Same, but it would pick random good content (good algo) and drop bombs of upvotes for free
Honesty one very good and important attribute so many will enjoy from that not
Wish you more luck
With this huge power I will support those who are truly helping this community to grow in right direction whether they are minnows who are providing good content or they are supporting the community by doing any promotion through social media. Second thing I want to support those who are working for charity to support the mankind. I like your idea. Thanks for supporting.
That's a tricky one. As a lot of people have said on here, it's hard to totally trust a stranger on the internet with a lot of money. There's a chance that it's totally true and the situation they are in would be solved (or helped) with a lot of SteemPower. But then, they are someone on the internet and if you can't verify what they are doing with that money, who knows what that is going to. I love the idea of giving straight to an individual, and having them step up and be change in their community but it's more risky. Maybe if in the future we have verified charity profiles who can show each and every thing they do with their power, then we can invest in them without worrying about fueling something else.
Also, with that much invested here, I would want Steemit to be sustainable so my investment grows in the future, and curating good content by thoughtful and determined users would also be a step to making this place grow and thrive.
From what I've seen, Steemit is treading on new ground and is in a unique position to keep growing, if done right.
The biggest thing steemit, and actually any social media site, is that there is no search tool. Posts get old, then they just disappear.
But, this is a subject for an innovative programmer to work on, and won't be helped much buy 300,000 SP. I probably should work on it, but I still haven't gotten anywhere with communicating to the programmers of steemit. If you don't have that connection first, you could write the greatest (new post page, search engine, post sorting...) and it will just sit on github collecting dust.
Anyway, you wanted thoughts on the SP. I suggest finding one or two great posts per day and put them firmly on the trending page. You really can't do more. (time-wise, and space on the trending page-wise)
It is great that you work with the people who respond to your posts, and that is probably the best use of your SP.
After that, just spread around any extra voting power you have by going through the New-tab and voting just on title.
We do indeed need a more effective searching mechanism. Perhaps that will be a part of communities?
It will not be part of communities. (they aren't even talking about search)
But, as long as communities are not too small (that they die of boredom) and not too large, then finding things inside one will be much easier than without the community.
i'll do the most hardest thing, try to find generous people like you do & consume all sp power daily on their posts. i know it's hard to find, if i don't get anyone else, atleast this community has you ;) @cryptoctopus
resteemed & upvoted & commented & followed@resteemia
Personally I would start an upvoting "crowdfunding" campaign for such as:
To start such campaign, users must upvote an post round.
Lets say you start the campaign at 10 January and let everyone kown there is such campaign. The fund goal is X SBD and all you ask is a max vote of X %. In the end with all your steempower earned from the campaign. Everyone who voted X % voting power, get an upvote of X %.
The upvote period starts from date 1 to date 2 and you have to send an 0.001sbd message to the campaign account in order to get an upvote. You will get the upvote from a comment.
This way people could get back their voting investment without really donating a whole. And could make work.
It is just an idea but I guess you know what the concept is ;)
I don't feel yet that I understand the whole process well enough to actually have a plan for something like that, so my first step would be to learn what my options are and how they can best be applied.
For someone such as yourself, you said it, you can't do it all, which is correct. I feel you have to do what you feel is right for you. That will be different for everyone. What is your goal and what tactic makes you happy and accomplishes your goal?
You eat an elephant one bite at a time. Do what you can that gives you satisfaction until you realize you're ready to chew another bite.
Whit 300k SP, I would help people who wants to make a impact on the world. I would spend my day doing what I want or love to do at the moment. I this kind of situation, I would probably most improve in my health - physical and emotional.
The key to me is to reward active participants who are actually contributing to this blockchain. So many post stuff that is really not contributing in the sense of moving this forward. Certainly this is well within their right.
The challenge with trying to curate and spread everything around oneself is that each of us is limited by time. With that 300K there are only so many articles you can read.
Therefore, I like the approach @fulltimegeek, @stellabelle, and @wwf took in delegating their SP to others. @fulltimegeek has roughly 30 people running around steemit posting, commenting, and upvoting. I believe the reach on that SP is much more than if he kept it himself and was active. His free delegation (along with the others) is an effective multiplier.
And I can attest, being one who received some of his delegation, one feels a sense of responsibility that comes with it. It is no longer about me and what I can get but carrying forward his value which is the growth of this blockchain and helping others succeed.
Whichever direction you go in @cryptoctopus, I commend your efforts because you know your intentions are in the right place.
I second this. I was brought to steemit by one of the stewards of gondor, and I know she has motivated many others to join and post often. If you delegated out your sp to people dedicated to spreading the word and wonder if steemit, surely good things would continue to happen. Lives are being changed around me, people are trying to do good and help eachother learn and grow. Check out @walkwithme, @ophumanangels, @healthy-home, all great movements gaining recognition and followers with the help of the stewards of gondor and other delegated sp :)
I will dedicate my time, not on commenting as I am doing right now since my power is small, but on curating good content coming from small users especially those that are from humble countries because the impact in their life would be much more meaningful.
Apart from that, with so much power I believe I could finance ways to promote steemit in my community (real life community haha) and give actual support so my social circles can understand steemit is for real.
Every time I talk about steemit people always ask me to prove it’s real by retiring some of the money I have earn. It’s difficult for some to grasp their minds around this new social media concept, missing on a huge opportunity.
So, by having so much power I will try to promote steemit in places where it can have the biggest impact on the people.
sure everyone and also we all want to more earen with a big upvote and feel too good with this own power.. if i get these amount of power i also upvote those person who dont get any big upvote, who dont get any big upvote bcz thier repo is low, i have many friends here who lost thier hopes to earen from steemit bcz they dont get some big upvotes @cryptoctopus ...and the other side i will make a seprate account as a charity account i upvote also that account and then the profit of that account is only for some speciall and poor persons who really need this earning and i will not like to give upvote any rich person who have already a lot of money and earning
what a lovely question!
You have quoted the ecoTrain tagline
"The other part of me wants to give a leg up for people who want to make the world a better place...whatever that means where they are. (something like this)"
I do what I can to make the world a better place and in so many ways.
You may have spotted ecoTrain which is something I have started in July to help promote new and amazing people.
IF I had a lot of SP then what I would do is go Outside of Steemit and bring in people who are promoting or doing amazing things and help them to be successful and spread their word!
I know and have met so many people whilst living off-grid, and it would be a GREAT honour and challenge to find amazing people to promote. With this kind of SP backing I could take this whole approach to the next level by REALLY looking and finding people. ecoTrain has been seeking delegation for some time, and to some extent our effectiveness is dependant on it!
amazing world we live in huh! ;-)
Interesting question with 300 000 power what I would do every day to cure content is to first dedicate 4 hours of my time partime and organize a white list with some requirements for each day they write their content and receive my healing and then create a automatic bot so that my time is reduced and I choose whitelist moderators to help me. My goal is to create a system that will heal and work perfectly
Try to find some good articles by lesser-known authors that you genuinely like, and who you judge to have good intentions here on Steemit. Don't worry about searching for tags that don't interest you, you have the right to use your SP to shape this platform in a way that you like.
Wow!!
If I had 300,000 steem power my first job will be to check out good introductory post of new members and upvote, to welcome them into the system. This will encourage them and give them hope of better things to come in the future.
Next, will be to curate other good post from different niches because I read more than I write. With the little SP I have I always check out post to upvote.
In all this I still earn from curation rewards, that's a win -win for everyone and the community moves higher and everyone is happy!!

To me both of your ideas are linked. If you could improve content discovery here that would change the lives of countless people and make the world better for them and those they love. Your example of making the world better is only possible because he has been found and is getting paid. @Sndbox is accomplishing for the same reason.
For me the answer to the question of what I would do is clear. I would make a living following my passion and helping others do the same. I want to spread liberty and abundance by supporting those in open source and voluntarist movements, and I want to help those who are less fortunate than myself.
Steem is the perfect vehicle for this. Only here can someone be payed to help others. On Steem we are outside the banksters rules. We can support people doing amazing things like the guy in your example.
From what I have seen, I think you are doing a good job so far of stewarding your SP. Not only that, but you are constantly thinking of ways you can do it more. I have no doubt that your efforts to change the world will be fruitful.
You strike me as someone who knows the meaning of Matthew 25:21. And we all would do well to keep it in mind...
“Well done, good and faithful steward, you were faithful in small things, I will put you in charge of greater things. Enter into the joy of your Master.”
Thanks for the post.
Keep Steeming!
I will spend most of my time visiting introduceyourself tag to upvote minnows. I have notice that most people stop to blog after quality introduction post cashing out little.
I will also look out for minnows with quality content but low cash out.
I will also upvote promotional posts, to support promoters.
Taking from one of my best movies Spiderman
So with 300k steempower one could do quite a lot but as for me, I would love to look for newbies probably 25rep to 30rep, look for the best works and original content and curate them appropiately, from my perspective there are more than 200different users whose account become activated daily, but after making 1-10post and still no visibilty they give up.
Although steemit is not a get rich scheme and only the consistent tends to go home with the goodies, but it would be nice, if once a while love is shared to this newly registered users be what ever tag they used.
After-all, is the season of love and sharing lets spread it far and wide
Sell it and go travel around the world until I'm old :)
If i have 300000 sp then i will sell my sp on minnowbooster and vote on quality content post by taking sbd or steem
I believe in the idea of Steemit so I would search for decent content and authors and upvote them. Engage in conversations with them. Maybe I would create a society or group(s) to bind quality Steemians and their content.
Steemit is worth it.
I would upvote undervalued authors who continously provide unique contents but have not made dollars only cents for their original writings, photos etc.
charity channel
Hello @cryptoctopus - I am currently working on a second channel, which will be a beneficial social project which aims to do: charity research, educate about blockchain based charity project and transparency, fundraising, networking, documentary creating and support other charity projects. I definitely would use 300.000 Steempower to build up a strong project and to finance the first goals: getting 15.000 to create a legal foundation and to finance some video equipment and other necessary stuff. I already took a bit of my own money to initiate the first steps.
Why I am doing this? Because I think Blockchain per se and also other blockchain projects can to far more than just providing financial systems. Steemit for example can create with its community something really good and offers the possibility for projects to start. I also think, that a lot of employees in the cryptospace have the vision to make the society a better place and that there are many who would support transparent and effective projects.
In general I have the vision to start a good charity and a social project since quite a while. One reason is that I realized that many npos are not transparent and even smaller associations are much more transparent. I also saw fraud in the charity-space... like the "buy a goat"....
This is wat I will do and to be frank: I wish I would have 300.000 SP - I know I could do a lot of good stuff with it!
Have a great NYE!
I would use the steem power to brainstorm and implement projects that have overall good for the community. I feel like a lot of resources do not have the time to devote to steemit due to financial obligations. Removing this constraint would free up resources that would not otherwise be available. The key item steemit provides is "time".
What would you do if you had 300,000 SteemPower?
I would encourage the community to stay positive and help one another, every little bit helps and it's all about spreading a positive message which is excatly what i mean should be done. All love and all good vibes
There are communities who help Minnows
Why not delegate the SP to them
I volunteer @airhawk-project for the delegation
They have been of great help to lots of minnows through curation, contest and freebies they give out when they party (Telegram party)
investing some of the power In airhawk-project will be awesone, as you will actually be able to achieve helping minnows that make quality posts. airhawk-project project has been trying a lot in supporting, motivating, and helping minnows, so they can establish their feet and contribute to steemit growth.
I will not be selfish. I'll be around to vote on good content.
this will be a wonderful dream when it happens.
You can lease your SP first, build an upvote bot and delegate SP to it later to help the minnows
I am much concerned about the new commers to Steem it. With 3000,000 SteemPower, I will come up with a programme of gifting the new people who are coming to steem it, who post regularly and they have great content. I was thinking of boosting their content with upvotes until they hit a reputation of 45 then leave them to continue as I pick other new guys to lift them up.
'Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish...'
So, the idea is good, but I think it might be better to more gently extricate your support over time, rather than suddenly at a particular cutoff. Also, just watching for engagment with the community might enable you to leave the pup to face the wilderness earlier.
However, all that being said, if it's content you like, and want to see more of, just keep supporting it =)
Great post
If I had 300,000 SP, THEN MY REALITY JUST GOT DAWNED.I'm a new follower of @cryptoctopus.
First of all, I'll be about my ever encouraging newbies who lost the vibes about steemit maybe due to low earnings and who have also give up due to no motivation..
Start up a community, where all we do is to bring in interested steemians and curate quality posts..
We'll run it as a community with dedicated tags for upvotes maybe 1 post per steemian per day to allow for more steemians on the community platform...
I believe this in a long run will be healthy for steemians and steemit as a whole...
You just described #MSP.
Check them out!
I would track good and informative posts that in my opinion help develop with the company and help them to get on their feet. Everyone knows that whatever exciting post you have not written, without the influential support will not rise. New people lose interest, they do not see, future and go.
If I have that much steempower, I will vote and vote and vote and buy beer and drink and drink and drink and drink all night and day long until my heart burst that I forget who I am and be a beggar in this world where no of things matter but my starving stomach.
That's so much, I would start the power-down process for 30% of it. With that amount, you should begin to send your powered down Steem into SBD if you are interested in maintaing support of Steem. Also, a good practice to maintain some liquidity of Steem in general, in spite of the advantages of Steem Power. Given the time-frame required for power-down, utilizing steem and steem power effectively demand a bit of fore-thought. If you are anti-power-down, so be it. I've seen a number of people use the contest feature to do their best to promote new steemers as it is difficult to gain a foothold. My thought is hold a contest to see who can provide you with the most intesesting posts. From there, award some and promote the ones you like.
A very good question and if I had a 300 000 SteemPower , then I would use this voting power to support comments to my posts and messages from other participants, since the block chain of Steem and exists only with the help of our support , it would be the optimal solution for our entire ecosystem in whole! Thank you @cryptoctopus
Great question @cryptoctopus ! "A great power is also a great responsibility" ( uncle Ben) :P ... So well, If I had your power I would definitelly support minnows with good content and I would even contact local NGOs with a good cause behind which I knew are serious and responsible with they money (I would visit the NGO in person to make sure I can rely on its management) , and I would encourage them to create a steemit account and daily blog where I would definitely put most of my vote power
I will find & upvote good content, support minnows , build a better upvote bot (not bid bot), use for my work's visibility & will use rest of it in good steemit projects.
It's a great Idea, Thanks.Well, 300k Steem Power is very huge. I would spend this steem power to help those who are posting quality content. The content which is useful for other peoples. And I will start a project like @ejemai is doing. He is doing a great job by helping others. I will support my community for their better lives.
I like your Idea. Thanks.Hey, @cryptoctopus, Helping others is always is a great Idea. If I have 300k Steem Power I will help newbies by up voting their post and encouraging them to write quality content, so they can help this community to grow more and make steemit a better place. @ejemai is doing really great by helping other people.
