Mini Motivation #75 - The Lady Who's Never Happy

in #psychology6 years ago

One day, an old lady came to my Master, her eyes swollen from crying. My Master calmed her down, and asked why was she feeling so down.

"Master, I have two daughters. They don't have much skills, so they just helped out with their husband's trade.

"My eldest tougher, she married an umbrella maker. My youngest one, she married a baker."

My Master noted encouraging her to continue.

"And I am so sad, my Master. When it rained, my youngest daughter will not have customers. Who would want to buy bread that has gone soggy to the dampness of the air?

"And when the days are sunny and bright, my eldest daughter will not have customers. Who would want to buy umbrellas when everyone is enjoying the rays of the sun??

She went on crying more, and my Master tried to console her.

"Dear old mother, why not look at it this way? When it's raining, your eldest daughter will have lots of customers because everyone will want umbrellas. When it's sunny, your youngest daughter will not have problems selling her delicious breads."

We may look at this metaphor, and disregard it for its simplicity. But if you ask yourself,

How often do we have thoughts like the old lady?

How often do we create situations where regardless of the outcome, happiness eludes us?

Do we practice gratefulness with what we have, at the proper times?

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3-minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

Hi. the glass half full half empty. Everything depends as we see it. Optimism is a value that must be combined with critical thinking.
It's like wishing without actions.
San Agustin wrote something like this: we must pray to God and in turn act.

Between the pessimist and the optimist and the half cup of water, I'll be the realist who knows at one point of the story, someone has to wash the cup. :)

jajajajajajaja Interesting. Philosophising is good for entertaining. Maybe the idea of experimenting like Masaru Emoto occurs to him. every day critical thinking opens many paths, without losing objectivity

I guess it takes one to literally and habitually practice gratefulness and finding that silver lining, no matter how slim it can be. There will always going to be ups and downs in life, we cannot escape from this. But with a little or a lot of sparkles of hope in our purpose and visions, we will at least know how to pick ourselves up, and keep going. :) Thanks for the little story here, @maverickfoo!

Glad you like it, @heartscally! Have a nice weekend!

You too, happy weekend!!!

Greediness is one of the thing that always make people overlooked the bliss of simplicity, sigh, human nature

Well, isn't human nature the one that makes us, well, human? :)

It is human nature to look at the negative and ignore the positive. Many times, our society and family teach us to view things in a certain perspective where we should sometimes look at the bigger picture.

Well, that's true. It's a good lesson for us to take a few steps back and hold our judgement :)

Life is a matter of perspectives. Don't depress yourself with the negatives always
