Stranger's Anxiety is commonly seen in babies until the age of adolescence. It is an important part of a child's cognitive behavior. A child gets upset or distressed when he sees some new face. This represents a baby's cognitive development by showing his abilities to tell a difference from a known person to an unknown person. Stranger anxiety starts appearing from an early age of 5-7 months and last around 2 years of age. So, it's pretty normal in kids.
Now let's talk about adult. Does adult have this anxiety disorder? I mean, technically they shouldn't have this disorder. But unfortunately they have, in a different sense. In case of adults, stranger anxiety doesn't represent fear rather it's a sense of insecurity which manifests among adults in case of stranger anxiety.
Stranger anxiety among adults can be seen in workplaces. When a new person comes to your workplace, some people get this feeling of insecurity and jealousy. They get this feeling of overthrown, not getting too much attention, less respect and status declining.
If we talk about some informal environment, let's talk about your group of friends. Whenever a new member enters into your group, and you were the star of your group, then the feeling of jealousy& insecurity you get - is the stranger's anxiety.
Reason being- People always wants a lot of attention, respect and interest for themselves wherever they go. They want to be the star of their friends group or in team of their workplace. Whenever new people enter, they take new talent and skills with them, which can be far better than than yours. So, people get this feeling of anxiety whenever they meet someone new. Sometimes it's because of being overthrown, sometimes it's because of simply hesitation.
How to get over Stranger Anxiety?
Simple answer would be to make yourself better each day.
Set daily goals and achieve them like a pro. Because when you do that, you'll feel a great degree of self-satisfaction, which in turn helps you get over the feeling of insecurity among yourself. The reason being, now you'll think that you're doing better each day and have more knowledge and skills than yesterday. Now you're improving yourself, then it would be pretty difficult for anyone to overthrow your formal or informal status.
And this advice should be used by everyone who feels jealous of someone. Jealousy don't create anything, rather it takes away peace of mind. But improving yourself better or doing better things everyday will make you better for tomorrow.
Keep this in mind and live freely.

It's always better to focus on ourselves than to focus on others. :) Comparing ourselves with others can lead to insecurity for some.. Thanks for this interesting post. ^^
You're welcome @tegoshei . I am glad to be of some help :)
Call it Anxiety or anything remotely related, this is a good reminder. When you said the statement below it really hit home for me. Sometimes we just have to hear it slightly different. The way you phrased the issue from a different angle made it more valuable to me.
Thank you!

You are very welcome, excited for you to address all my insecurities so keep them coming!
Very cool post cryptonet! Especially because of the perspective and solutions you provide in directing that insecurity experienced around 'strangers'. I very much agree that a solution to feeling insecure around others is to look at where I myself am actually not secure within and about myself, my expression and movement in my own life and to then create that self-security through living in a way where I know I am taking my life in my own hands.
