People with lower I.Q are less smarter or just plain stupid?

in #psychology7 years ago

I was watching the TV series "The Young Sheldon" this morning. It was a comedy series that I usually watched right after the other series "The Big Bang Theory". I love these two comedy series very much, the nerdy scientist characters, their love for comics and the ordinary not so smart people who became their friends or partners.

About the series "The Young Sheldon", Sheldon the nine year old genius who is also the main character of the series has an older brother and a younger sister, who are not as bright as him. In one of the scene, the girl wanted the brother to help her with her elementary Grammar Homework, the brother at first tried to help but he gave up soon when he is unable to understand the questions. As the girl was about to leave him, she turned around and said, "Are we stupid? Or are we less smarter than Sheldon?". This simple question suddenly makes me wonder and think.

In today's world, human's intelligence are being measured by using an I.Q Test. What is an I.Q Test?

The IQ test consists of a number of tasks measuring various measures of intelligence including short-term memory, analytical thinking, mathematical ability and spatial recognition. Like all IQ tests it does not attempt to measure the amount of information you have learned but rather your capacity to learn.

If you would like to know what your I.Q level is, you can browse the internet and do it online, or just click on this LINK if you are lazy to search. I suggest that you do a multiple test on different websites to get the most accurate test results.

So, the question that remain, are we stupid or less smarter than other people? For me, I guess it all depends on the individual's own opinion. For smarter people, they might perceived other people as inferior to them in terms of intelligence, whom they describe as less smarter. But I don't think people will often use the term "less smarter", they will most probably use the term or the word "stupid" when describing people who not as smart as them. It's a rude and nasty way to describe someone, but be honest, we used it all the time.

I believe, there will be no exact answers to this question, just like when we were asked whether the "Glass is Half Empty or Half Full?". Different people will have different opinion, for me, there is no definite anwers to differentiate people who are smarter than the others. The rate for people to gain a higher intelligence level is not the same in each age group. Some became smarter earlier than the other. No human are born to be stupid, it's just that some takes a longer time to learn something. It doesn't mean they are less smarter, its just that they are less knowledgable and lacks the experience to judge a situation and making the right answers or decisions.

I really love that show, it's a good comedy series.
Just like you said, perception could be the key. Some people see half empty, some others see half full, I just see that there's water in the glass and It can be refilled, if need be.
