RE: A Point To Prove...?

in #psychology7 years ago (edited)

Always a thought provoking read @rok-sivante. Though i rarely comment, i do follow and enjoy your incredible writing... Today i feel like leaving a little comment... in an attempt to share my perpendicular (but not opposing) view.

Believes are strongly held ideas about how the world is or aught to be... if ideas are entities that occupy our brain, then we, as hosts, can't help but be zombified to transmit these ideas onto others.

And if Believes are tied to people's identities, then for better or worse, people have the need to validate their identities to others through a set of proves (that they often falsely deem sufficient)....

As for Truth ... i think it needs to be difined in almost every discorse, because to some it is an absolute and singular; while to others it is an individual perception - everyone is right, even though their "truths" contradict. So what is truth?

Also i do think that there is an evolutionary need to transmit ideas - to make claims, to present proves, etc. After all, evolution itself is a transition of information (slightly distorted with every transition), but if the idea can adapt to its environment, it can even change it... and it still might not be the Truth :)

Truth, i think, can only be demonstrated through scientific method, where prediction models can yield verifiable consistent results. And it is absolutely vital to pass on this Truth - screw ego. Everything else, however, like personal anecdotes, may indeed be a need to stroke one's ego.
