Thank you for your article @giantbear
I resonated so much with it. I am leading a small team of 3 people and this is my most difficult challenge right now. I am trying to keep my door open for them, but I also try to protect my time for interruptions. How would you approach this situation?
You are in a difficult situation, perhaps you should make a set of rules and allow certain times for interruptions....just be nice about it! :)
The only thing that worked until now is to wake up at 4-5 o'clock and rush into the office so by the time my people come in I have already worked 3-4 hours on the important tasks. When we are there I can't really implement a no interruptions time because fire come up on a daily basis and sometimes they need a decision without which they can not go further, but... we all learn and I will always pursue to become better. Management is fun though :D
Oh my goodness don't do that! I do exactly the same...I work 3 hours earlier just to get work done but it is wrong! They have to fit in with you and not the other way around. Just be straight up with them and prevent yourself from burning out. Good luck to you!
