A Wiki for by and for the Hive community

Close to two months ago, I bumped into a post from @pharesim where I noticed something about Wiki Propolis and was curious to read what this was about. Of course we all know Wikipedia so I already thought it might be something similar but then for Hive. This was correct and it was good to read that this is not just created by a few people on Hive but that we, the Hive creators can contribute to this wonderful effort as well.

Something I learned from checking out the Wiki Propolis name was that Wiki is a type of website that allows users to edit and structure it's content together. Isn't this great? We get to build this thing together, I personally love this idea because we often realise when we onboard someone that not all info is available at one place.

Some people start to write great guides, but aren't connected to certain people so who knows if they end up reading it.. If we gather all the information we know and publish it on Wiki Propolis, we can all find the resources here in one place.

Fun fact to add to this, which comes from the Wiki Propolis website:

Propolis is a wiki which utilizes the Hive blockchain for data storage. The name comes from the Greek word propolis (pro ‘for’ + polis ‘the city’[1]), also used for the bee glue that keeps the hive together. This suitably describes the intention of the project as an entry point to the community which connects all areas. Source

As someone who loves writing guides and has done so a lot in the past, I think this is a great opportunity to start contributing to the Hive ecosystem a bit more. Personally, I already created an account dedicated to Hive guides last year but haven't started publishing on there yet. Instead I decided to focus on contributing to this project first because I'm sure it will reach more people.

Contributing soon

I already explained to Pharesim that contributing during the summer holidays was a bit hard for me as I was not active on Hive full force either. All of us were exhausted from the 3 month long summer holiday and ready for school to start. Now that we're used to the school routine again, I'm slowly picking up things on my list, such as contributing to Propolis.

Anyone with a Hive account can start contributing to it but needs to get access first.. In the screenshot below you can see in the right top corner that you need to be logged in:

I already have an account, I asked for it in the Propolis discord, which you can do too if you're willing to help out. There is an activity bot in the Discord where you can see the new publications and currently it's not too busy yet so still plenty to contribute. We can also update data and this will clearly be an ongoing project where things may change over time so whenever you see something incorrect, you can update it with the right data.

With this post I'm hoping to bring some more eyes to the project so that we can have a well filled site with resources for everyone who's curious about something Hive related.

Will you be contributing to Propolis too?

I love the cute bee page-breaks xD

I suppose this is a good use of time, just not sure who it'll be useful for.

Even though I have judged this book by the cover already 😬, I'll take a look. Always want to advance Hive if I can, but, like almost everyone else, limited time...

Thanks for bringing this to my attention though!

I didn't make these page-breaks, they come from the Propolis discord, with permission, of course. But that's why I used them because they look so good!

Well, for starters when I onboard someone, I think it's great to have one place where they can find a lot of information rather than having to rely on one person or finding tons of different writers who shared guides.

But yeah, time is of the essence of course, I'm going to try and contribute a bit regularly, hopefully more follow soon.

!PIMP back at ya!

Good point about new people, I can't imagine what it would be like trying to understand this all that we have here if I was new. After 6+ years I still feel I need help at times 🙃

Thanks for spreading the word about Propolis!

Thanks, I planned on doing it sooner but you know, life :) Hopefully at least a few more find their way there..

Thanks for spreading the word ;)

I think I read that same article. I am going to check it out and thank you for the reminder.
