It has been too long since the last Zekely Report and I really have to get over the notion that these have to be 12 stories long!

On the Last Episode...

The last Zekely was so long ago, this art unveiling with the mayor showed leaves still on the trees!

Winter is Here!

These days, winter has set in and we had a white Christmas. Doesn't stop me from getting outside and doing wintery stuff! The little guy doesn't care how cold and snowy it is and would come to the dog park in literally any weather. I try for an hour per day and more on weekends to get in some steps and fresh air. Plus there is no happier a place for my little buddy.

As reported in my #weekendadventures post, I was presented with the opportunity for some ice time with the guys and took it. I haven't played since last Easter weekend so I wasn't dazzling anyone but it sure was fun. I found a weekly pickup game so that I can get more games in and be in better game shape for the big tourney. Pizza and beers in the dressing room too!

More along the sports angle, we are proving that golf is a Canadian winter sport as well. Indoor golf that is. As a twosome, we can get a full 18 holes in at one of the premier courses of the world in 2 hours. Definitely not as great as the real thing but a nice treat when the fairways are otherwise covered in snow.

What makes it even better is Anna bringing us nachos and Birdie Juice! An aptly named and nicely-refreshing IPA.

Beer

As one might expect, a week of holidays, slacking off and partying showcased plenty of beer for a #beerologist. As a little late present to myself, I visited my favourite brewery of them all Great Lakes Brewery They always have such a wild variety of IPAs that a fresh one only available there on tap is something special.

This time, I opted for a Black Imperial IPA and a lovely Egg Nog Nitro White Stout. You might not see from this magical angle but the glass in the foreground is maybe a quarter of the dark pint in the back. Delicious.

Another gift I received was this yeti can holder that keeps em nice and chilly. Since I drink pint cans plenty, this will come in handy!

Besides all that, I was getting my fill in leading up to a Dry January. That's right, the first month I will have ever gone without alcohol. Not that I have many more than a pint or 2 per day, I just wanted to give it a try and not pile 600 calories/50 grams of carbs in my gut every night at 10pm. More water, 1500 pushups and 1500 squats in the month along with a return to training Brazilian jiu jitsu might mean for a great month!

This pic, however, is the still we used to de-alcoholize a keg of golden ale. So, maybe a few NA beers along the way to scratch the itch. Neat process I would not have bothered to perform if it were not for Dry January.

Until Next Time...

It is not a resolution as much as a return to good habits I am leaning into this month. This includes more frequent content creation. They say doing anything consistently for 30 days creates a habit that comes more easily. Here goes!
