Encouraging Promoting of Posts

After taking some advice from @smooth, I will be regularly voting on promoted posts moving forward and promoting posts I find worthwhile.

Burn those SBD!

Sort:

The feature is back? Nice!

And for now, I think Steemit really need this feature:

That would be nice. On any blog or even a forum, the comments can be vastly more interesting than the actual opening post. The opening post stimulates the conversation, but it is the conversation that many crave.

Bravo berniesanders!

There is value in how the promoted feature burns some SBD of course, but I also find that the Promoted page is a good way to find quality posts (that doesn't mean I agree with all of them especially some of the conspiracy theory posts, but they are at least posts that people some real put effort into writing, decent photography, etc.). Most people won't spend money to promote junk posts, so it serves as a decent filter for removing a lot of the spammy garbage that you have to wade through on New, etc.

If more people were aware of this aspect of it, the page would have more visibility and spending money on promotion would make even more sense.

I think it's going to have a compounding effect as well, because once people start to catch on that spending and to promote their post actually will net them a higher payout they will start to want to be on top. It's probably gonna create a promoted post price war, which will burn a lot in the end.

I think that is the idea. I also think it might get people to think differently about the promoted page too which is what we need to attract businesses into using it. Once they start to see it as a viable proposition with enough views then the amount of money they will be willing to pay will make our promotion bids seem like pennies.

And yet another thing I'm learning about in the past 48 hrs, and I think I might be stalking you now...not intentionally ;) but many posts that give pertinent information that my extremely right brained (artistic and creative and great at philosophy but god awful at anything techie/mathematical/organized etc) self is doing her utmost to learn and comprehend I find you in. And now I feel compelled to ask you a couple of questions, and I'm trying to find the right way to word them so they don't come across with the wrong connotations. Just know that there is no negative inflection here, I am simply curious. What is your function or reason for being in steemit? I went to your page to see if you post, since like @sigmajin you're very intelligent and you understand the system better than most. But you don't post, you don't follow anyone...you do have a huge wallet. I realized you were a whale at some point when we first interacted, but until now I think the only whales I've met had a couple hundred thousand sp at most. For a second there I was intimidated by the number, but my curiosity outweighs my nervousness (normal for me, this cat has 9x9 lives) do you have a preference for content? That's probably the question of a severely mentally handicapped person, sorry: What is your preference? What do you like to see/read/listen to? And what qualities do you like in people? Because it's possible you only vote on material you enjoy, but it's also possible you vote on people you enjoy. And finally, would it make sense for me to promote my fiction? Okay, admittedly it's New Year's Eve and I'm currently drinking Ommegang's Three Philosophers with a 9.7 abv, and I'm probably going to be really pissed at myself in the morning for posting to you right now. I will understand if you choose to ignore me. Happy New Year's Eve my smooth new friend (yes, that's reaching I know LOL)!

LOL. Have a happy new year!

I came here to wish @smooth a good New year and found this post and got a LOL. I appreciated the honesty of it (:

Hey there @smooth.

I am just dropping by to say I am thinking of you at this time and thanks for the support on here and friendship.

I hope you have a good 2017. The last year has honestly been the worst of my life after the car running me over, and I am spending time tonite posting to wish others a good year. It won't help me but it might help someone else LOL.

YESSSS!! Burning now Mr. Bernie.

Although I would love to eventually see promoted posts be placed other places than just the promoted tab.

Cheers!

Oh, and even though I get the whole feeling the Bern, I felt the Johnson instead.... sorry.

However ,there could have been a Burning feeling Johnson for the win... ?

♨FEEL THE BERN ! ♨Lol ! BERNie ! 😂😆

@berniesanders, cool beans! Just saying hi and thank you.

I think this is great news. I try to do the same thing but I am just a small SP holders. I think checking promoted post regularly is important since this is what they have paid for.

Another feature I would love is to have a tab to see all the posts I have upvoted since I have been on Steemit. I sometimes find such great content that I want to read it a second time later. It is not easy to find good articles you have upvoted unless you save the link yourself.

You can see all your votes here:

Hope that helps..

Cool! I'm so pleased to see this feature make a return. I enjoyed using it before and I'll make sure I get used to using it again.

Promote on!

Cool to know, and it's a good idea. Just a shame that the amount of SBD paid out on post rewards low right now, which means less to burn unless you take the extra step of converting it.

The internal market works extremely well for converting small amounts with narrow spread and no exchange fees. If you aren't familiar with it, click the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines) on the upper right and choose "Currency Market". Still an extra step but pretty easy to do.

Honestly thanks for the reminder! I haven't converted anything in so long I completely forgot about the internal market. I was thinking how much of a pain it is gonna be to transfer steem to poloniex, then sell it, then buy SBD, then transfer it back to my steem account hahaha. The internal market is much faster and much more simple :) thanks @smooth!

Also check out blocktrades too if there isn't enough for you on the internal market. They usually have the best overall price (in my experience) compared to all the big exchanges like Poloniex (unless you are exchanging a penny worth or are willing to set an order and wait) best of all you don't even need an account.

Sounds good, and thank you for your support on the contest.

Yes! Thank you @berniesanders 😊😊😊. Resteemed! 😁

Sounds like a plan;D~

Aaa. those get burned. now I know :)

I fully support the burning of anything... as long as its not me.

Sounds really good, thanks!

I have never seen a benefit from any of the posts I have promoted. It doesn't seem to get any extra views or comments.

Nice idea, hopefully more of the whales catch on to this. The more SBD gets burnt, the easier it is to keep the economy stable.

This is a clear message. I hope many can profit from it, that's why I resteemed it.

Cool.... Thank you for your continued efforts!

Hi @berniesanders :) I am writing to you because I find myself very confused over the debates going on in the past couple of weeks, beginning with posts by @beanz and @klye and several others. After reading what they had to say along with all of the commentary underneath the only thing that seemed apparent was that a solution to low quality content being top trending posts on this site was needed. From what I could discern, downvoting such posts was the system devised as a form of checks and balances. It appeared to me that you yourself, as well as @smooth agree with this ideal based upon your doing that very thing. I myself have never downvoted a post because its difficult for me to do things I perceive as hurting someone. However after reading the posts put forth by @sigmajin, and after he kindly and patiently explained things to me that I find difficult to understand due to being extremely right-brained, it seemed to make sense and I felt I would be willing to put my emotions on the subject aside for the good of steemit. I very much want to see this site not just succeed but become as great as its potential is to be. Ever since I joined I have been a cheerleader for this site, advocating it to everyone in my scope. I tell them that this is a place that encourages critical thinking and unique ideas. My husband has invested in bitcoin for a long time and has been considering bringing that investment to steem, though he is still watching and waiting, particularly in light of some issues that appear in need of resolution.
It seems to me that @sigmajin is the only one who stepped forward to outline the problems in detail as well as the potential solution. I do not see where he is advocating for censorship, I would not support it if that were the case, I am wholly against censorship beyond what has already been done with the NSFW tags to protect younger audiences.
Reading that you will be counteracting anything he attempts to do...I guess I just want to know why? I certainly do not want to make enemies, so far all I have made on this site is friends such as @papa-pepper, @merej99, @ezzy, @therealpaul, in fact the list gets longer by the day they are not only great people but bring great value to the platform.
I would truly appreciate it if you would explain to me why @sigmajin's proposition is a bad idea, and what could be done instead? I see from this that you are voting on promoted posts, is the idea that people would be unlikely to spend money promoting poor substance? What does it mean to burn sbd? Thank you so much for your valuable time.

Creating "guilds" to downvote content based on one persons opinion is bad. Those people using their downvotes based on their own opinions is a different matter altogether and I encourage that.

Voting on promoted posts causes competition to burn SBD in order to get into one of the top spots which may receive larger votes. Burning SBD removes it from distribution completely, reducing the overall supply.

That makes sense. But the guilds that upvote content, how does that work, do many people read and evaluate them? I just registered for streemian and I put myself on the fiction-trail, is that something you would recommend? I wish I had about fifty more hours in a day, haha! There's so many things on here that I want to read and upvote, not to mention comment on, I have lists and I can't quite keep up.
Okay, so removing sbd from distribution brings up the value of it, is that the idea?

I see steemit as a fantastic creative outlet, but I also want to support the community to the best of my ability. I rely on people such as yourself for guidance in such matters as I have been doing my utmost to understand everything that is involved, but it can be overwhelming.

I cannot thank you enough for voting on my story yesterday! I had a few people reading it from the first day but you gave it that much needed exposure and now I have a confirmed 8 people reading it, as in they told me they were enjoying it, and two new followers due to it! And yesterday was just the second part of the prologue, chapter one went up today, it's very exciting, again thank you!

Thats great and thanks upped back.

Great job @berniesanders! I hope you enjoy my post. Thank you!

If the promoted area is ran by @berniesanders then everyone might as well go back to Facebook. Are there others here with this sort of power? This is incredible to see how people support this crap.

Elitist Communism never works, and only a selected few will be granted to the "honor" of being selected in the "honor" of being upvoted.

The promoted area should be not ruled by a few like this.

done

@berniesanders, this has nothing to do with your post nor comment on this one but I just want to THANK YOU for your support to the Steemit Culinary Challenge announcement and entries! Thank you!

Tyrannical upvotes!
