A bullet journal is a journal that contains yearly, monthly, weekly, even daily logs, which contain important information about tasks that need to be done due to a certain deadline and events that are going to occur in the future as well as different collections, such as birthdays to remember, packing lists, places you want to travel to, trackers for habits you want to develop, books to read, movies to watch and more. It's a good way to keep all the information in one place you can easily refer to anytime and anywhere you are, especially if you keep a small pocket size journal, such as A6 format, and take it with you everywhere you go.
Not only is a bullet journal great for breaking down difficult, overwhelming projects into small bite-sized tasks, it's also great for jotting down all ideas and thoughts that pop into your head. By doing this, your head will become empty and you will find it easier to focus on the important task that needs to be done now. And when you need to refer back to the ideas and thoughts you had before, you will know exactly where to look for them.
At the end of the day you can also use it like a regular journal and write down your experiences, thoughts and issues you faced that day, your feelings and frustrations, which is something I would recommend you do to de-stress before heading to bed. It's also interesting to refer back to those days and read what you were experiencing say 6 months ago and that can also help you track how your thoughts and personality have developed over time.
Bullet journal will also allow you to plan your next day and save you time you would otherwise spend thinking what to do in the morning. You can get straight to work and get productive, instead of panicking and spending time thinking about the day ahead of you.
It will allow you to set it up how you want. You can buy a regular notebook and decide where you want your index to go, if you want it at all, where you will have your yearly calendar and how it will look and you can create your own key for different types of bullets and their meaning as well as any colour coding you might want to use, so that you can refer back to them later on. Or you can buy a planner that comes with a yearly calendar and index and go straight to writing down your daily tasks. Some people like to decorate their journals and others prefer the minimalistic look. Depending on the time you have available for planning and your own aesthetic taste, you can choose which look you want to go for.
But the primary focus of a bullet journal is, of course, going to be its usefulness in providing you with information about your day and week as well as a place for all thoughts and notes you consider important and don't want to forget in the future.
