HIVE is a social media platform built on the HIVE blockchain. The site rewards users with the HIVE cryptocurrency.

It is a great idea to begin your account with a post that uses the tag #introduceyourself . There are several large accounts that reward first time users who use this tag.

Since the web site is built around a crypto currency, you may notice that it takes some crypto currency to make things work.

For example, I ended my last post with the LOLZ command. This command put 0.1 LOLZ token in your HIVE Engine Account. It also produces one lame joke.

HIVE engine is a side chain that holds numerous tokens related to HIVE.

An account with 20 LOLZ can issue the command once a day. I will end this post with the WINE command. I have 25 WINE and can call it once a day. It will put 0.1 WINE in your account.

There are several tokens like this. New users can use the HBIT command as it does not require that you have staked coins. You can only use this command in threads that you started.

Pay close attention to your resource credits.

One needs to have resource credits for their account to work. The resource credits are based on the HIVE in one's account.

New accounts have 0 HP and only enough resource credits to write a post every other day.

The system does this to prevent people from creating spam accounts.

The resources regenerate at 20% a day.

The amount of HIVE POWER in one's account determines the value of one's upvote. So, I have 5500 HP. My upvote is worth $0.09 USD.

Each upvote reduces voting power by 2%. Voting power regenerates at 20% a day. This really just means that I can upvote 10 times a day.

You have 0 HP. Your upvote isn't worth anything.

Half of the upvote goes to the author and half to the curator. So, I will get $0.045 and you will get $0.045.

0.04510365 = 164.25

In a year, my account will give out $164.25 in HIVE rewards and I will receive $164.25 for the effort. I also receive all of the rewards on Hive Engine.

BTW, the minimum payout on HIVE is 0.001 HP. One needs to have about 70 HP to assure a payout over 0.001 HP on every post.

HIVE is a distributed blockchain. I listed some of the pages that interface with HIVE on the site Internet Rivers. A HIVE tribe is a web site that interface with HIVE. The tribes supplement HIVE rewards with HIVE Engine coins. Many of the HIVE Tribes have specific focus. For example #leofinance is interested in posts related to crypto currency. CreativeCoin rewards posts that contain creatives like drawings. HIVE Photo has extra rewards for photographers. STEM rewards posts related to Science, Technology and Math.

The special interest tribes will down vote accounts that are not relevant to the interest.

Some tribes like ProofOfBrain and NeoxianCity are general interest tribes.

Wavio is a general interest tribe that created its own unique interface.
