Time To Piss Some People Off - "Privileged"

in #privilege6 years ago

Time to piss off some people that use the thinking that was done for them and they cling to instead of examining things and coming with their own original thoughts.

I get the point people often give for why they say "privileged" but when some of these people say privileged, they are using the wrong word. They say what they think is a logical reason for it but are just repeating a "point" of others instead of thoughts they worked out on of their own to come up with something that's not a variant of what they have heard a thousand times.

By the popular logic on why to use word, ALL are privileged if you compare to something/someoneone worse off. The logic behind the reason for chosing that word and clinging to it with dear life in how they defend it is flawed. The who has it worse contest doesn't make the one who lost it a privileged person. It makes them not so unlucky because of x,y,z.

And the word has been doing a lot of damage. It's a word that conjures up a person having things nice or at least some detail of their that is great. Having things horrible but not as horrible as another is not the same as having it good (much less great); that is not a privilege. That is just not being quite as unlucky in the bad system/situation(s).

If group A had to eat 10 piles of dog shit a day and group B had to eat only 5 a day, you would choose the word privileged to describe group B?

Or hey change it a bit.

Say group B not taking that forced meal will mean they will suffer but less (more often than not) if they don't eat it. You would still use privilege to describe group B? If so, you would be shocked and angry that the forced shit eater in group B did not like you labeling them as privileged? Is that how you get unity and find common ground with each other in the mess? Sure, my example is crazy sounding and over the top but I know you get my point here

Find a better, more accurate and less dividing word you constantly have to defend. You don't have to throw out the other words that are accurate such as "systemic" & "race" to do so.

We divide ourselves and then complain about being divided.
