Hey everyone!
I'm totally into 3D-Printing and like to share something really cool with you. It's a pair of goggles with an iris mechanism which is working directly out of the printer. The design is really well thought out!
1. Printing with my Prusa i3 MK2
So that you can print parts with a 3D-Printer, you have to slice the CAD model with an appropriate tool. I personally use a freeware called slic3r. All important build-parameters have to be set. Like the nozzle temperature for the material that will be used. In my case this is PLA.
This screenshot shows the sliced 3D-Model of all parts needed. A total height of 34.7 mm resulted in 231 layers. Each layer has a height of just 0.15 mm. This gives a nice surface finish.
Timelapse of the whole printing process ;-) The printer has a moving bed, so I had to attach the camera to the build plate. A making of will follow in my next post.
2. Remove the parts from the build plate
The print took about 12 hours. The removal has to be done with highest caution to not break the parts.
All parts removed:
3. Assemble the four parts
Assembly process is really straightforward. Just cut the defined breaking points at the backside of the two eyeballs and clip them into the frame. Last but not least there is a spring which also snaps right in. There is a hole prepared at each end of the spring to attach a small thread. The spring makes the iris to automatically open if the threads aren't pulled.
4. Have fun :-)
If you like to build your own pair download the STL-Files from thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1833286

yes they are cool :-) but the frame might be to small for your head. i'm currently working on a redesign...

Nice print, reminds me of one i have seen where you had neopixel around each eye :)
