Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was released from the hospital on Tuesday after suffering from a high fever and a cough, his office said. Netanyahu said on Twitter: "I am on my way home. Sure some rest and hot soup will put things right." An official statement from his office said hospital tests indicated the prime minister was suffering from a mild viral infection of his upper respiratory tract.
"The doctors recommended him to rest and undergo medical treatment," his office said in a statement, without giving details. An earlier statement said Netanyahu's personal physician believed the 68-year-old leader had not fully recovered from an illness two weeks ago and therefore decided he should undergo further tests in hospital. Netanyahu fell ill in mid-March and cancelled his public schedule for five consecutive days.
"The prime minister did not complete the time required in order to recover from the illness he had two weeks ago and therefore the symptoms have gotten worse," the spokesman said in a text message.
