The UN General Assembly will hold an emergency session on Thursday, December 21. On the occasion there will be a vote on a draft resolution that rejects Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
An emergency session was forced following a veto issued by the United States against a previous draft resolution in the UN Security Council forum.
In response to the UN General Assembly's emergency session, Trump also threatened. The 45th US President warned of holding back "billions" of dollars in aid to countries supporting the draft resolution of the rejection of the confession of Jerusalem.
Trump's threat came after US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, first released an ultimatum that he would "record" which countries supported the birth of the resolution.
"Let them choose to fight us," Trump said in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday at Washington time as quoted by The Guardian, Thursday (21/12/2017).
Trump went on: "We'll save a lot, we do not care, but it's not going to be the same way they used to fight and then we give them hundreds of millions of dollars, we can no longer be used."
"I love the message delivered Nikki (US ambassador) yesterday," said Trump.
The Trump statement is said to be aimed at UN member states of African, Asian and Latin American origin who are considered more vulnerable to US pressure. Including, Egypt is designing a resolution in the UNSC forum. Last year, the Pyramid State received US $ 1.2 billion in aid from the United States.
However, did not rule out the threat of Trump also resonate in other regions such as the UK for example. Queen Elizabeth's country is anxiously hoping to quickly negotiate a trade deal with the US post-Brexit.
It is estimated that US allies such as Britain, France, Italy, Japan and Ukraine will support the resolution at the UN General Assembly's emergency session forum. Previously, the same countries also supported the draft resolution at the UNSC.
A diplomat at the UN Security Council leaked that a number of countries such as Canada, Hungary and the Czech Republic are likely to be subject to Washington pressure.
Trump's extraordinary intervention in UN resolutions is seen to mark the escalation of the latest diplomatic tensions over a decision that has made the United States much criticized and isolated.
Meanwhile, an ultimatum issued by US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, delivered through a letter to the UN Ambassador, including diplomats from Europe. He said he would report to Trump, the names supporting the draft resolution to oppose US policy recognizing Jerusalem's capital city of Israel.
In his letter, Haley wrote, "As you cast your vote, I want you to know that the President (Trump) and the United States responded personally, the President will listen carefully to the vote and ask me to report to him whoever has been against us."
Meanwhile, through his Twitter account, Haley mentwit, "At the UN, we are always asked to do much and give a lot, so when we make a decision, based on the wishes of the American people, about where our Embassy is located, we do not expect the many we help target our ... "
Actually, the latest draft resolution at the UN General Assembly will be very similar to that initiated in the UNSC forum. Only differently, in the UN General Assembly, the use of veto power does not apply.
The draft resolution reaffirms 10 previous UN Security Council resolutions, including those stating that the final status of Jerusalem must be decided in direct negotiations between Palestine and Israel..
