Easy Homemade Pinkeye Treatment

in #prepping7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well today!

I have seasonal and environmental allergies. This leads to itchy, watery eyes. Sometimes I inadvertently rub my eyes causing an eye infection called conjunctivitis..commonly known as pinkeye.

When I found this wonderful tip online (who knows what site...as it has been so long ago) , It was the weekend and I had noticed my eyes matting and the inner lining of my eye was bright pinkish-red. Both are classic signs of pinkeye. If this goes untreated, it can cause major issues with your sight...even blindness, so I knew I could not wait until the weekend was over.

Here is the recipe I used then and still use today. I have had 100% success with this!

Items you will need:

Bring 1/2 Cup Filtered or Distilled Water to a boil (no water with chlorine or fluoride)

Pour into a small bowl or container. I just used a measuring cup here.

Add 3 tsp. Organic Honey (Not that stuff you get that has corn syrup added)

Stir

Cool

Pour into a clean, glass dropper bottle. I use a funnel for this. It makes is much easier and less waste.

I put two to three drops in each eye, several times a day (at least 3-4 times a day, but you may do this more frequently).

As pinkeye is very contagious, make sure to disinfect all surfaces frequently throughout the treatment period and make sure all in the household are washing their hands thoroughly. Small children should avoid sharing toys at this time as well.

Once the episode has fully passed, discard the remainder of the eye drops.
Remake fresh batches as needed for future episodes.

I hope you found this helpful!

The end product

Thank you for stopping by!
Sincerely- Oily

I never would have thought to try honey for pinkeye! How did you stumble across this remedy?

I found it online looking for home remedies for pinkeye. It was like 10 years ago or I would share the link. It has worked for me every single time. I am so thankful! We live about an hr from the doctor and pharmacy so it has saved me time and money. One of the best things I have discovered as of yet!

I will have to pass this on to my family with wee ones! Thank you for posting something so useful that I haven't seen!

Happy to help!

Wow, definitely a new one for me! Following, upvoted and resteemed.

Thanks! Trust me, I was thrilled to find this! It has been a lifesaver several times!

This is great! I love home remedies. Would this help with simply itchy eyes caused by allergies?

I can't promise anything but it is worth a try! Therapeutic-grade essential oils are great to help with allergies too! I do two drops each of lemon, lavender and peppermint either in a capsule or rubbed on the bottoms of my feet or diffused. Helps me a lot!

Thanks! I moved to a new area in the past year, and my allergies are worse than they've ever been. My Zyrtec doesn't always do the trick, unfortunately.

I hear you! I am allergic to just about everything around here. Lol! Getting local honey may help too. Just eat some every day.

Alright! I'll be on the lookout for some.
