My Prepper Essential Oils

in #preppers6 years ago (edited)

After any large scale disaster, resources will be hard to come by. A large portion of your medical supplies may be depleted through the treatment of casualties or damaged by the actual disastrous event.
When we have to go back to basics what will we use and how will we get it? Some of your group or family may succumb to stomach disorders, your water purification devices may be lost or damaged and pain relief supplies may be hard to come by. Any person who is preparing for disaster should consider alternative measures. One of these, for me, are the use of Essential Oils.
For these reasons I ensure many of my 'preps' are multi use and there is nothing better than essential oils, when it comes to multi-use medicinal items.

As I have a limited storage capability, I ensure my oils are tailored to suit my environment.
What I have done here is to produce some labels with a short descriptor of what they are for and what the dosage should be. I can then just grab the relevant bottle and consider its use.

Many times in the past I have taken out an item and forgotten its actual useage, so am left either guessing or 'trusting in the Lord' as to my estimated dose.
This can be corrected with my labels.
They are very handy and easily interpreted. Do not be the only source of information within your group! Labels such as these can be read and understood by anyone in your group - Simplicity is key!

I'll leave you to see my collection and their uses.
Feel Free to print them out and use them yourself (At Your Own Risk)
That's my clause out of the way - GOOD LUCK

Any additional suggestions are welcome.

Nice labels. Hey, thanks for the info. Good post!!!

Pretty handy. Takes away the thinking lol.
My favourite is the Clove Oil.

Howdy sir preppervetuk! hey I never even thought of essential oils as being part of a survival kit so I need to catch up! great information sir!

I like to think of them as an extension of my med kit life... Some of the essential oils amazingly strong and have multiple uses.

howdy today sir preppervetuk! yes sir I can see that now but doesn't one have to be careful of what brand to buy? I've heard that there are worthless brands out there, how do you know which ones are the good ones?

Good question. It can be very hard to find a good oil.

  • The FDA requires only 10% essential oil in the bottle for it to be marketed as “Pure Essential Oil”. Beware of claims of FDA certification. The FDA has no certification / approval process for these products.
  • Avoid essential oils that have been diluted with vegetable oil.
  • Choose companies that list the Latin name too.
  • The process for making oils is expensive, so an even price across a range of oils is an indication of something suspicious.
  • Light can damage the oils, so they should be sold in dark bottles.
  • A reputable company should ensure confidence too.

Of course the other alternative is to make them yourself, although this cannot be possible. Some methods include:

  • Distillation
  • Maceration
  • Pressing
  • Using Solvents

howdy today sir preppervetuk! wow, this is some great information sir, thank you. I'm stunned that the oils only have to contain 10% in order to legally called pure essential oil! What a scam. Okay well there are a couple of dealers on steemit that I know handle these products and I trust the people so I will go through them.

They are powerful substances with many uses. I now even try and only use soaps, shower gels and even deodorants with essential oils in them.
Good stuff..

howdy today sir preppervetuk! oh well that's interesting too, I didn't even think about those kinds of products, those are alot more expensive?
