Early Pregnancy Discharge
Are you having a secretion or milky whitie vaginal discharge during your early pregnancy? This and more are usually signs of early pregnancy discharge. Is it normal? Are there potential concerns to be expected?
While in the pregnancy period, your hormones go crazy so it is perfectly reasonable to get confused, especially when you are not quite familiar with what is thought to be normal or not. Discharge during early pregnancy is one of the things you should handle. If you see your monthly cycle and some changes in your discharge each month, you’ll notice that it has the tendency to grow when you are pregnant. This is known as leucorrhea – normally with no odor or sometimes has a milky white form and comes with a slight odor.
What causes the increase of early pregnancy discharge?
The levels of estrogen increase when you are pregnant, therefore the flow of blood that will take place in vagina will become well better. These changes have something to do with the increase of discharge. Some women think about vaginal discharge as a sign of early pregnancy, while others treat is as an indicator of ovulation. The discharge is made up of secretions from the cervix, vagina, cells from vagina and normal bacteria from vagina. Women can also notice more discharge of vagina as they near labor.
Is early pregnancy discharge normal?
Early pregnant discharge is typically a very big complain among pregnant women. And often, it can be a cause for concern. But, discharge is very natural and normally no cause for concern. As a matter of fact, some women see this discharge before they know they’re pregnant. They falsely believe that it is only a yeast infection. You can expect some vaginal discharge all through your pregnancy, but it is more so on the first weeks. Mainly because, the vaginal walls become thicker and thus, some of the mucous drips due to the cell lining turnover.
Things you should NOT do
When you confirmed that you’re pregnant and an increased discharge alarms you, DO NOT:
Put a finger into or douche your vagina because this could affect your pregnancy or result in vaginal infection
Use vaginal suppositories or creams
Use tampons (you’re only introducing bacteria in your vagina)
Have intercourse before visiting a doctor
Take herbal medicine or over-the-counter before consulting a doctor
When to call a doctor when you notice discharge?
If you are starting to notice lots of clear, thin discharge onto your panties, this can be difficult for you to confirm if you are already leaking amniotic fluid or it is only mucus. If in doubt, now is the best time to visit your doctor. Also, you might have yeast infection if your discharge is pasty and is in consort with burning and itching, or your vulva looks irritated. If there is a strong smell to your early pregnancy discharge and the color is gray, green or yellow, this could possibly mean that you have a sexually transmitted infection or vaginal infection, though you don’t itch. When you experience any of these during discharge, see a doctor immediately.
