Disaster to Delight!

So, the other day we discovered that our 200 litre fish tank had a crack in the base. This is NEVER good news as any aquarium enthusiast would know... there is a lot of mess, stress and even more WATER! We have had our fresh water aquarium for years and through tank breakages etc. have lost some family members over the years. The last two survivors are our two pangasius cat fish. They have always been my favourites really... they are so placid and REALLY tough buggers! Anyhooo... so yes, THIS is what we were left with... accompanied by enormous CHAOS in my lounge! It is insane really - the WEIGHT of water haha - the tank with what appears to the eye as "practically nothing", weighs a bloody TON! - Even empty, the tank is so difficult to move... but I am a problem solver hahaha... so I put it on FB for free. Within minutes I had countless enquiries and after 3 hrs it was collected and gone! YAY!

We had gone earlier in the day and bought a new cabinet tank... a slightly more humble home for the fish but the cabinet tanks are not even funny when it comes to pricing... and I still had to use my Capetonian bargaining skills on the salesman to beat him down a bit - successfully though! However, all said and done - I am very happy with the new display tank... no it isn't built into a wall or anything quite as grand - but the price of Steem will need to rise somewhat to afford that haha!!!! All that was left after the tsunami disaster was to revamp the lounge area so it felt sane once more...

Me, being me - I love rearranging things. It is like a fresh start - a clean canvas if you will. I always have a lot of fun with it and normally end up doing things that most people raise their eyebrows to. hahahaha!!!! (David certainly does!) - like the fact that I converted Jude's old bed into a lounge divan, which is GREAT for Sunday afternoon snoozes, or the fact that I use old light fittings as coaster bowls haha!!! - My decor creativity definitely steps outside of the ordinary lol! I HATE curtains, always have - always will... so the closest you will ever see in my house is light voile, which allows all the light in. This is what we had in the lounge, but during my little revamp rampage, I decided to pull the voile down from the garden lounge window and start building a scarf curtain hehehe... those with vision will see where I am going with this - but I will need a lot more scarves to complete the look. They need to be closer together, all the way across the stretch of the window with a much fuller end feel... I think it will look amazeballs! I love it and my mom loves it, and that is all that matters haha!!! I am enjoying the new look and feel of everything. Change is as good as a holiday they say :)

WHO ARE THE

Power House Creatives _night mode.png

The Power House Creatives is a discord community of individuals who are committed to producing content which adds value across multiple platforms. We are STRONGLY focused on supporting our fellow members individual growth as well as offering support to those that are still trying to get ahead. We are a CLOSE KNIT community of individuals, each with our own strengths, passions and input, yet ALL willing to go the extra mile for our family members... WHY? - because, simply put - we CARE about one another and MANY HANDS make light work! - THAT is what FAMILY is about! - To infinity and beyond...

text15.png

INTERESTED IN JOINING THE PHC FAMILY?

As most of you already know our community is closed. This does not mean that we are trying to keep people out or that we ignore those who aren’t members – it simply means that we are focused on keeping our standards of content high and our member commitment higher. I think if nothing else, we have proven those two qualities to the Steemisphere over the last year and even more so in the last seven days.

I am not going to sugar-coat things for anybody, because it would not make any sense whatsoever, nor would it serve anybody fruitfully - long-term. Our community is incredibly proactive - and DRIVING the success and growth of the people within it is our FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE, because this is how they are able to do the same in return for other individuals in communities beyond our own! Our reach extends WAY beyond our own walls and this is one of the primary reasons why it is important to ALL OF US that each of our members are able to hold our flag high wherever they may roam.

We work hard, we play hard - we support one another through thick and thin, we know whats going on in our "3D" lives and no matter what it is - we are there for each other! Yes, there are daily responsibilities and obligations. Yes, there are things that fly within our walls and things that definitely don’t. Yes, we require quite a bit from you as an individual but you get it tenfold in return and ANY ONE of our members will gladly testify to this. Absolutely EVERYTHING is catered for and considered… including those times when you will NOT be able to fulfill your obligations. It simply requires the following of our procedures, which once you have grasped – are not complicated at all - I promise.

Everybody in our community jokes about my “boot” because they know that there are certain things that never were and never will be tolerated within our walls… and when they surface, those people will very quickly meet my infamous “boot” sending them out the door – or at least showing them that it is open. A few such things would be the likes of: not doing what you promised to do when joining, not being a team player, plagiarism, spamming, causing trouble with other members etc. These are all no-brainers really, so should not be much of a shock or challenge to anyone who is actually on Steemit (or any other platform) to make it a better place for everyone!

We may be a relatively small collective, but we have approx. 118 members from over 30 countries and that continues to grow. Most of our members are also key players in some of Steemits other highly regarded and supportive discord communities and initiatives - and all of us at “home” know without question or doubt that every single one of our members will make us proud with whatever they do – wherever they go – and that is precisely how we intend to keep it. Simple as that! No, this kind of “ethos” does not work for everyone – and that is perfectly fine - Each to their own. The people who have done the “putting in” are the ones that understand what they “get out” of it all ;)

So, if I have not scared you away yet, or if the above info excites you (even better) and you would still like to put in an application to join our fantabulous and VERY crazy little family… then by all means – hop into our applications server and do the necessary.

YEAH BABY YEAH - I WANT TO APPLY

Looks like your fish are happy in their new home. I feel you when your tank cracked. It happened to me once. I was devastated and a teardrop literally flowed on my cheek. I never got a new one. Now because of your post I'm beginning to think of starting again.

They certainly seem to be :) as for the crack disaster.... yes it is devastating when that happens, especially if you lose fish :(

@jaynie,

I cannot help but notice that you've avoided addressing the 800 lb gorilla in the room ... what caused an expensive 200 liter aquarium to suddenly fall apart, causing damage and distress ... and, perhaps, the first anti-drapery rant in the history of social media?

Well, I think I know.

Those damn fish!

Don't laugh, fish can get rebellious and before you know it, it's the Storming of the Bastille. Here's how this shit goes down:

Jaynie, it's time to lay down the law before things really get out of hand. How about adding this to your decor as a subtle reminder about who's boss?

HAHAHAHAHHAA @quillfire hehehehhe you gave me such a bloody good laugh now! :D

Oh man!! My ex-uncle in law had a big tank similar to that. They came back from vacation, with deceased fish, and LOTS of wet carpet! You did an outstanding job... great photos too!

yeah it is real DISASTER turf when they break lol! And thank you!!! Got little to no sleep that night, but it was worth it to wake up to sanity the next morning haha :)

Haha... oh I am sure! But you turned that frown, upside down... without Prozac!!

My ex-uncle in laws was on a second floor... it was the ENTIRE length of their home. You know; I can hear meditation music looking at your photos!

meditation music FTW!!!! :D

Neat and clean house !!

Woah, what a mess cleaning up after water spills throughout an area.

Glad you have lived through this before (experience counts), I ended up with fish in a bath overnight many years ago.

Have an awesome weekend!

yes!!! You just dont realise how much water is in a tank that size, until it is no longer in the tank but on your floor hahaha!!!

Nightmare all of it's own....

You have good interior designer skills. I did once a large window dressing with scarfs, about 30 scarfs. I used those long scarfs with fringes that women use as cover-ups at the beach. Multicolored. It came out really nice, got lots of compliments. Can’t wait to see your end result, I am sure it will be very beautiful. 😊

hehe thanks hon :) I love decorating and re-decorating my personal spaces. Gives me great pleasure :) Oh awesome, I am glad to know the end result for the curtain looked great! I need to go scarf shopping haha

This post really cheered me up the other day and I finally made it back here.
resteeming too!

MWAH thank you angel! Glad you enjoyed it xxx

Lovely, I'm sure the fish are delighted with their new home! 😍

Looks warm and cozy!

Thank you! MWAH! Maybe oneday you can visit :)
