I like the approach you are taking by starting with a contest. Contest are tricky because it's success depends on how good you are at supporting the people who participate in your contest. The better you are at showing them love the more excited they'll be about it and they'll promote it with their post.

Posting your contest in the comments box of post that are unrelated to your contest is called SPAMMING! !
You are new so hopefully people will take it easy on you. I noticed that you've posted several of these comments. I read your intro. I think your on to something. Yet spamming will get you flagged. If you have a low reputation your contest won't be as effective.
When you write a comment be sincere, read the post your commenting on so you can leave a specific comment.
It feels good to receive positive comments by people who actually read your post, and it's usually followed by them doing the same.
