Throwback photos

in #posh5 years ago

I was going through some old family photos today and came upon a couple that I thought might be of interest.

In this old school photo my dad is in the back row, directly in front of the teachers left shoulder. He was a youngster when the 2nd World War was happening.

Notice the girl in the row just below him! She made me laugh when I zoomed in. After all the work her mom went to getting her all spiffy for the class photo! I hope she made her family laugh when they saw this!

And then there is this boy in the front row with the scowl on his face! I wonder how many of these kids had fathers who were away in the military?

I thought it was interesting to see them all dressed up in their finest for picture day!

My dad is standing in this next photo, the first on the left. It is fun to see the classroom decorated for Christmas. I guess if your family was not Christian you were just expected to play along!

And a couple of carefree after school photos.

Thanks, Pix!

These are awesome photos. I have so many from that time period of my parents too. What a trip down memory lane. Thanks for sharing.

They are treasures, aren't they? My friend brought me some of her scalloped potatoes, which she makes with cream of celery soup and lots of cheese. I'm still hungry for scalloped potatoes!🥔🧀😋

My mom made hers like that sometimes. Now, you are making me want some more. lol Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Melinda.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

I really love looking at 'old time' photos; especially when they are of your own parents... it's a great reminder that they too, were once young, something we often 'forget' until we grow of age ourselves lol

I only wish my grandmother and my father were still here to tell the stories that go with the photos. I have forgotten so many details.

Thanks for the Tokens!

Some lovely old photos. I do have plenty of old family photos. I may have to do a similar blog.

That would be great! I would love to see yours!

My mother says that I am very annoying with the photos, but I know that in the future they will be my greatest treasure

I really regret that we didn't take more pictures back in the days of film cameras!

It would have been great. Having many photos will always be our greatest and most beautiful treasure

How is everything going for Thanksgiving?

Everyone is coming for Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. I am having my groceries delivered tomorrow morning and plan on spending Thursday and Friday prepping for some of the food that I plan to make. Now if the weather only allows everyone to get here. Poor travel conditions are one of the worst parts about winter weather

If in the news I have seen that it is quite bad weather. I hope to see photos of the Thanksgiving dinner.

The wind is ferocious this morning. Yeah, you know me, I get busy getting food on the table and forget to take pictures. I'll try to do better!

If I know hahaha. I hope you have a very happy day together as a family

Those are wonderful, Melinda! I love old family photos, and I deeply treasure mine. What a great post!

They are treasures and hold some great stories, too!

All these old photos are gems. 😊

Do you have many old family photos?

No, I don't. We were too poor to afford photos.

I notice a lack of photos from my family during the 20s and early 30s during the Great Depression. Photos were something you could easily do without when you needed to buy food.

Yes. That's it. 😊

I love looking at old photos @melinda010100 👍

Me too! I have a suitcase full from both sides of my family.

Old is gold

They are fun to look through!

Awe @melinda, a beautiful collection of photos! That little girl below your dad reminded me of myself. My eyes were so sensitive to sunlight and that is how I always looked outside on a sunny day. I hated, and still do, having a photo taken outside when it is really sunny out although I love the sun it does not love me. 😎

Maybe that's what it was! I wondered if the little boy beside her had pinched her or something!

A very familiar look for me..lol. I also adore the Christmas decorations in the classroom, especially the tree with the pretty tinsel and the chalkboard drawings. Simple yet very lovely. 💖

I love rummaging through old photos, especially of my folks when they were young. In fact I was doing that not so long ago and was sharing them with all my family on our family chat group. It brought up so many memories! As for the little girl hahahaha!!! There is no telling what they will do at that moment lol... despite all the efforts we go through to make them look "perfect" on that day haha!

I hope the little boy beside her didn't do something to cause her to make that face! Maybe the sun was hurting her eyes, like @deerjay suggested.

A family chat group sounds like fun! Is it immediate family, or more extended than that?

re. the boy... well, boys will be boys haha!

It is just immediate family - well, our parents, myself and my partner and all my brothers (3) and their wives. and yes, even though we see one another on a fairly regular basis, it is still a nice way of keeping more in touch on a day to day basis... also for sharing photos while out and about as most of my family are not on any social media.

I don't have any siblings left, so it's just my 86 year old mom, who has a hard time figuring out social media. But I think that would be fun to do with my kids and grandkids! I will suggest it when they are here this weekend for our Thanksgiving.

Amazing memories from your old photo book ! 😊

Looking through these bring back lots of memories and make me miss my dad and all of the family that have passed.

Wow! Such cool pics, I bet your family was thrilled to see a glimpse of how those that may not be with us anymore lived back then. Nice share Melinda.

Saludos.

Old photos are priceless. I have some of my parents at school too. About the same year like yours. I started to scan the old photos to preserve them for longer, although I love to browse them holding the old albums.

It is nice to have them scanned, and know that they will not deteriorate any more. Some of the old photos have become so faded.

This is an amazing memory lane Melinda! I love old photos like this and I remember looking at my family old photos back home. Unfortunately I don't have any of them here, but sister does, so I can see them next year when I will be vising her. Your dad looks like a cool kid and I am surprised he is wearing shorts during the Christmas time, lol.

They are fun to look back on, aren't they?

Yes they are, lol.

Howdy Melinda! Wonderful photos here, I get a kick out of those. Our family's house burned to the ground when I was a freshman in college so there went our thousands of old family photos. My father was a photographer so he had literally tens of thousands and all those great old photos were gone, I miss those.

Another reason I need to get more of the ones I have scanned. That is so sad and a story that is heard far to often. How awful that must have been for your family.

Yeah it was very bad but you are wise in getting yours scanned and preserved!

Thanks to all!

Nice to see. I do not have photos from the past. Not one of my parents, myself and no longer of my eldest children. I gave it to them. I don't think there were of my father and his family. The place they lived was burn by the Japanese and the ended in a Japanese concentration camp. I hope for the women photos were not made (good facebook.and youtube did not exist at that time).

I wonder about the school. Till today with us you join all celebrations and go to church(lessons) no matter if you are Christian or not. If you do not like or want that you choose an other school. Happy day. 💕

There are so many reasons that people around the world do not have family photos.

@melinda010100 Indeed. I think one granny had.

Nice selection of old photos! It's a lot of fun going through those, especially when you scan them in and get to take a closer look. I especially like the one of the classroom. Maybe it's because I taught... Anywsay, those rows are really far apart, especially by today's standards. It would have been hard to get away with pinching your neighbor or passing a love note!

Last year, I went through and cleaned up a bunch of photos for my mother using Photoshop. It was a lot of tedious repair of scratches and specs, but they came out beautifully. I even boosted the contrast and sharpness to bring back their former punch.

I thought it was fun seeing that 1940s classroom. I have scanned in and repaired hundreds of old photos. It took me months. I have 5 times as many yet to do and it is daunting!

It is certainly a substantial time investment, but fun to see how they come out.
