A Lighthouse in the Murky Social Media Mists

It can be difficult sometimes to sustain a regular posting presence on Hive - to always find something to say, and feel clear and strong enough to say it.

The attrition rate of active users on Hive is usually attributed to a drop in the $Hive price, but that's probably simplistic.

Having recently observed VERY regular Hiver @artemislives have a serious posting wobble after more than 2 years of serious Hive commitment, curation and posting constancy, it was interesting to see what/who supported her through the lull and what encouraged her to put on and pull up her freshly-laundered Hive Big Girl Panties. What IS obvious, from her post, is that it was only a couple of active Hivers who regularly shared their content over in the wilds of Zuckerland. @samstonehill and @plantstoplanks to be exact.

They were somewhat of a lighthouse, really. A light shining though a murky pea-souper of censored covid updates, fake news, memes and endless pictures of pets and lunches.

We tend to think of the #POSH initiative as something that's going to make someone on twitter or facebook or instagram suddenly sit BOLT upright and think "Damn, I NEEDS me a Hive account!". And sometimes, very sometimes, that happens. At least after repeated exposures. Social media stats suggest it takes upwards of 17 different, effective exposures to create a sign-up action,

But this example has shown us that Hive user retention and activity is ALSO strongly supported by sharing Hive content on other platforms. Because actually people get out of the habit of posting for oh-so-many reasons. People who are struggling to stay motivated to post on Hive SEE you when you share your Hive content on Facebook or LinkedIn. You literally become a nudge and a force for blockchain good without needing to say anything.

There's also a good case to be made for connecting across platforms to your Hive friends, so you can give them encouraging support or a DM if you see them active over there but side-stepping Hive.

Ultimately, most Hivers have multiple platforms where they post and engage and we can do SO MUCH to grow and support our Hive blockchain community by reinforcing connections & friendships and making sure that we are SEEN.

Cos sometimes that's all it takes.
