Sunday Blog Post Day - Today, we look at what happened in Bali
Spending some time traveling opened up the opportunity for some cool new Light Painting experiments. My last trip also took me to Bali. And now I do have to update my international light painting map. Here you'll see the results of a spot on Bali. For a few days, I was wondering if find a spot that is accessible without overstepping boundaries. Figuratively and literally.
Just around the corner from the hotel where we were staying near the town of Ubud, I saw this small temple directly on the road. I understand there are some restrictions on what clothes you wear, etc. Here, you see I did not need to enter the temple at all.
Meine letzte Reise bot mir mal wieder die Gelegenheit für spannende neue Lichtmalerei-Experimente. Mein intl. Light Painting Map, kann endlich mal wieder aktualisiert werden. Denn nun habe ich auch einen Ort auf Bali erleuchtet. Einige Tage lang suchte ich nach einem Ort, der zugänglich ist, ohne Grenzen zu überschreiten – im übertragenen wie im wörtlichen Sinne.
Gleich um die Ecke von unserem Hotel in der Nähe von Ubud entdeckte ich diesen kleinen Tempel direkt an der Straße. Mir ist bekannt, dass es dort Kleidungsvorschriften gibt. Wie man sieht, musste ich den Tempel hier aber gar nicht betreten.

Just the night before the Full moon, I went here, and as I hopped, the area was empty and dark enough. Yet with the full moon, I had another light for the clouds and for the structure to consider. I would use the moon as an extra effect later on.
Die Nacht vor dem Vollmond war dann meine Nacht, und es war leer und dunkel genug. Mit dem Vollmond hatte allerdings noch ein weiteres Licht, das ich für die Wolken und die Struktur berücksichtigen konnte. Ich würde den Mond später als zusätzlichen Effekt einsetzen.
The Setup
Since I was planning for a Camera Rotation, I was setting up with a super low vantage point on my tripod. That makes it easier to align the center rotation point and angle. I usually suck at that, because I'm not patient enough.
Ne Camera Rotation war auf jeden Fall geplant, also positionierte ich mein Stativ superlow. Das erleichtert das Ausrichten für den Centerpoint. Normalerweise bin ich darin nicht gut, weil mir die Geduld fehlt.
Lighting Test
The very first test went super well and did not take long. A quick 19 seconds at ISO 200. Starting at F11 and then after the Light Painting, I would eventually drop mid exposure to F2.8 to have the clouds and the sky shine e bit more from the moon. So that was it. I had my procedure. I repeated that a few times and turned the camera next. So double the fun.
Der erste Test lief super und ging schnell. Kurze 19 Sekunden bei ISO 200. Ich begann mit Blende 11 und reduzierte die Belichtung nach dem Light Painting auf Blende 2,8, damit die Wolken und der Himmel vom Mondlicht etwas stärker erhellt wurden. Das war's. Ich hatte meine Vorgehensweise. Ich wiederholte das ein paar Mal und drehte dann die Kamera um. Doppelt so viel Spaß!
51 Seconds Exposure: Not straight, but the direction is good. A little more blue in the sky would be nice. Less grass in the top frame. Let's see what goes.
51 Sekunden Belichtungszeit: Nicht ganz gerade, aber die Richtung stimmt. Etwas mehr Blau im Himmel wäre schön. Weniger Gras im oberen Bildbereich. Mal sehen, was dabei herauskommt.

but there is clearly more. 3 more runs!
This is pretty much what I was after. Top and bottom were never meant to be just the same. I wanted the stronger feel of a reflection, but the sky was supposed to be sky, and so more blueish. I got that by opening the lens in the last half a little longer for the sky in the top part of the composition.
This single exposure was then a total of 60 seconds at ISO100 for both runs.
Genau das hatte ich mir vorgestellt. Ober- und Unterteil sollten nie identisch sein. Ich wollte die Spiegelung stärker hervorheben, aber der Himmel sollte wie ein normaler Himmel wirken und daher bläulicher sein. Das habe ich erreicht, indem ich die Blende in der zweiten Hälfte des Bildes für den Himmel im oberen Teil etwas länger geöffnet habe.
Diese Einzelbelichtung hatte insgesamt 60 Sekunden Belichtungszeit bei ISO 100 für beide Durchgänge.
Too much?
This was not needed but I guess it could have worked. I am not a fan, but I would have regretted not adding a special Light Painting effect. So I did.
But clearly it is not adding to the composition at least for me. What do you think?
Das war nicht unbedingt mehr nötig, hätte funktionieren können. Ich bin zwar kein Fan davon, aber ich hätte es bereut, keinen Lichtmalerei-Effekt hinzugefügt zu haben. Also habe ich es getan.
Aber es trägt meiner Meinung nach nicht wirklich zur Komposition bei. Was meint Ihr?

Camera Rotation is what?
As I have shared with you in many of my posts about Camera Rotation. Yes, it is just what the name suggests. The camera is being rotated during the exposure, sometimes in steps sometimes in a continuous motion while doing so I also light up the scene.
Prinzip Kamera Rotation Light Painting?
Wie in einigen meiner Posts beschrieben ist Kamera Rotations Fotografie genau was der Name schon meint. Die Kamera wird einfach während der Belichtung gedreht und dabei wird das Subjekt ausgeleuchtet.
