Hi everyone! I miss you all. I hope you are all doing well. Anyhow, our city is under the maximum level of quarantine after it was announced on the news that five (5) out of the eleven (11) people who were discovered with the Delta variant of COVID19 is in our city. Fortunately, those five were able to recover. I just wonder as to why the announcement was only made by the Department of Health (I suppose) when they got recovered. It felt that the announcement of Extended Community Quarantine is a bit futile. Well, Anyway, it is them who know too well, so it is them who shall decide for the people.

Since I am on a WFH schedule, I might as well use it as an opportunity to read blog, make artworks, and share some background of my works here. I hope I still satisfy your curiosity and love for art.

Too much of that eh! For today, I would like to share my art milestone. As you can see, most of my works are colored-inspired. I would like to make most of my artworks lively.

20210718_120509.jpg

These were the artworks I made few months and few years ago. I am found of either recreating nature and women through my work. Perhaps in years to come I would wind up creating other subjects such as abstract, men, or some things which are out of this world.

The biggest artwork was a gouache painting on board. I wish to have it framed when I am able to save enough money for its frame since our paycheck has been so delayed. FML. You can also see, I tried recreating Van Gogh's Sunflowers. I suppose I made a blog about it months ago.

The one that looks like a snake was inspired by the Snakes and Ladders game. It was actually an oil painting on a magnetic board. The rest were painting of women. Below, you can also find that I love making portraits of women. There is also an oil painting on canvas on board. I would also love to have it framed so that I can put it on our Cafe's wall (God-willing that would really happen).

Artworks Before 2021

20210718_120636.jpg

I think this was way back 2012? 2013? Or even before that? This one was a plaster that I painted using acrylic paint. My family and I were in Dumaguete's Robinsons Mall when I ended up with this paint on a plaster stall. Since my parents were busy on checking some items to buy during our stay, they both allowed my sister, brother, and I to paint. I actually do not like how this was. finished so I used a nail file to make its surface better (well, in my opinion)

If I get to buy the materials and money that I need, I might start making such business. Wish me luck!

Nature has always intrigued me but as an artist, it was a subject that I tried avoiding for years. I thought I was not good enough. My curiosity was then triggered upon seeing different art blog focused on nature over Steemit. I tried recreating what was made by this Japanese artist. I know I was years behind him as an artist and my work was not that great, but I really had a lot of fun making it and following the steps.

I also ruled out then that watercolor indeed is an unchartered territory that I would like to master, well if I could master it.

20210718_121501.jpg

This one, I know is like a piece of junk but I decided to keep it. I, someday would love to try both traditional Japanese and Chinese Art. Since those two look very simple, but the strokes are kind of bold and elegant when combined.

If given a chance, I would love to learn personally from the masters of traditional Chinese and Japanese painting. But that means I really need to be saving up. I also am planning to buy supplies that would allow me to come up with such artworks while applying techniques that I would learn from them. Fingers crossed!

Color pencils are nice. It is like sketching with colors but it takes too much time for me. NGL. I guess I do not have that patience to work with color pencils a lot. I might use color pencils but that would be together with watercolors and/or gouache.

20210718_121621.jpg

For this one, I have used a cheap watercolor and then a parchment paper so the paper crumpled. The watercolor is just so cheap too that the pigments do not really last long. Wrong choice of medium, eh?

20210718_121355.jpg

This was like 2009? I guess. I thought that I work well with markers but upon seeing this one after years, I realized I was not good enough. I might invest on nice markers, but perhaps not that soon. I've seen a lot of young artists working so well with Copic Markers. I somehow envy them but I am not going to do anything about it. Haha!

20210718_121421.jpg

I also thought I am getting pretty well with my shading! Haha! Maling akala lang pala talaga! Undoubtedly, I need to work well with my sketching and then in using charcoal pencils.

20210718_121625.jpg

I was then enticed on using watercolor cakes, because it was the available medium for me at that moment. Although I love working with Prang, it gives this certain effect whenever I use watercolor cakes. I also like the idea of making simple artworks such this one. I guess I made this way back 2017.

20210718_121604.jpg

This was when I used prang and watercolor cake. I got invested on trying to mix colors and mediums as well. I know my portraits were not that promising but at least I could see the progress that I was making.

I've thought to myself, If I have not stopped practicing, perhaps I would have gotten better.

20210718_121321.jpg

A quick sketch of Kiki! I have not discovered that different color pencils vary. Expensive color pencils are great, but there are not so expensive color pencils that are well-performing. I would also like to add up that what matters the most is the person who is using the medium.

20210718_121530.jpg

At this point, I was trying to level up my rendering skills but I was not able to see any progress on my work. It was just letting or making the colors more vibrant! Haha!

20210718_121907.jpg

This was an artwork that I made for Ate Miel. I love how candid the reference photo for this one. The colors were not that vibrant because I only have watercolor cake at that moment.

20210718_121913.jpg

This one, I made this way back 2018. I suppose. I used watercolor cake for this one as well, but few weeks ago, I decided to repaint it with gouache paint. I had so much fun remaking this!

2021!

2020 was the time that I stated loving gouache paints over watercolors and any other medium. I guess those who read my blogs know why but I will say it again. Gouache for me is the medium that I could easily work with.

20210718_120937.jpg

20210718_120942.jpg

These two were artworks that I made. As you can see I was still experimenting with gouache.

20210718_120828.jpg

The one I made below was from a scene of Descendants of the Sun. I found it easy to work with but I know I could never perfect it since I am not a hyper-realist nor a realist.
20210718_121539.jpg

I then saw a lot of references to work on with. A couple of those I gave it to my clients who bought artwork from me.

20210718_121931.jpg

I also used gouache on this one. It took awhile before I finished it. I also used a gold poster color.

20210718_121727.jpg

This one on the other hand, I used watercolor. The reference was from Red Velvet music video Psycho.

20210718_121118.jpg
This one I made using gouache paint.

And here are the recent portraits that I made using watercolor and line art. I hope you would enjoy it. I started of with this portrait and this was from a scene of Descendants of the Sun . I know it wasn't perfect but I was having a great time sketching. I guess the last time I sketched was months ago. My fingers are pretty rustic indeed.

These were also taken on the different scenes of Descendants of the Sun. I've used a shiny type of paper, Unipin Marker, and Lukas Watercolor.

20210718_120913.jpg

After using this shiny paper, I decided to use a couple of watercolor papers to work with. I must say, using the proper paper medium helps especially when one works with watercolors as watercolors glide easily on even surfaces and they tend to crumple the paper, of course!

20210718_121758.jpg

I recently posted an art process on this one. It was so fun to make and it consumed me hours before I could finish it. I guess I should paint repaint this one on a bigger board with an acrylic paint instead of gouache.

20210718_121123.jpg

This was the most recent artwork that I made. It looked pretty simple but it took some time for me to finish and some concentration. I love how I was able to pick the colors that I want.

20210718_121107.jpg

This is a gouache painting. Since I had no line brush at the moment I was making this, I really had a hard time putting the details that you can see.

20210718_121201.jpg

This was made our of boredom but I really enjoyed it as I was able to mix different colors and was able to see which colors would look best when being put beside each other. Color theory? Yay!

20210718_121208.jpg

This was an art reference that I made for a bag that was commissioned for me to paint. It took like three days for me to finish it but I had so much fun. Working with gouache and acrylic was so fun. Both easily glide on the board when painting.

20210718_121151.jpg

Acrylic on board. It took a couple of revisions for me to say that I am finally done with this one. I just love that I was able to pick cool colors/ palette for this one. This has given me an idea that I should work on painting birds one of these days. Hahaha! I have so much on my plate already but who cares.

20210718_121825.jpg

The reference, as I could remember, I saw it over Pinterest. I told myself after making this one that I should let my imagination work or take photos to paint instead of trying to imitate the work of others.

20210718_121554.jpg

There was a time that I was into koi fish that in a month, I made a lot of Koi Fish artworks and gave it to my friends and to a guy that I dated for months. Haha!

20210718_121934.jpg

This is my favorite here, not because of the art techniques that I applied. It was because I was able to focus an entire day just making this one. I posted the art process for this one. You can look it up.

20210718_120926.jpg

I was just so bored that I decided to make this one. Oh well, most of the time I just get bored that I start doodling or making artworks or bad artworks. Apply color theory, Gail!

20210718_121113.jpg

There was something about this artwork that I like. I used gouache on this one. Perhaps it has to do with the strokes that I made. The colors, all in all we're not that cool though. I could have applied the Color Wheel Theory instead.

20210718_121548.jpg

This was the time I was able to buy a new set of oil pastels. I got so in love with it when I saw it at the National Bookstore, and after that I did not use anymore. I think I need to practice my hands more especially when making strokes.

20210718_120930.jpg

I used gouache paints for this one and I must say, oh boy! I still suck at that time. I have thought of pushing for color blocking instead of just moving my brush without proper calculations.

20210718_121830.jpg

I used Winsor and Newton Cottman for this small watercolor painting. The colors are just very pigmented and they last long. I hope I could buy better watercolors instead on buying milk tea everyday. FML! Haha!

20210718_121832.jpg

After recreating one of my shots, the beach, which can be seen above, I decided to make this creature. I guess this is a duck. Well, I am not really that sure.

I hope you enjoy reading or checking some of my artworks. I think it would be great that after this pandemic, I get to see my friends and push for an art jam. I miss their company a lot and I think it would be great to work on different art collaborations.
