Startup founders and social media personalities need to earn the attention of their audience before having the opportunity to pitch their product or content. In both cases, we are competing for screen and attention real estate.
Luckily for us, growth is guaranteed on every social media platform—if executed correctly.
I’ve helped startups, influencers, and small businesses grow hundreds of thousands of followers over the years. Producing and curating content at scale—while always optimizing for growth—has taught me a lot about what works and what doesn’t work on social media.
These are the four steps you absolutely need to know to improve your social media growth.
1. Post incredible content that is valuable and relatable.
My friend and Quora Top Writer Nicolas Cole always says, “Relatable is sharable.” Tell a story, make it compelling, and make it about your audience. Don’t forget that strangers don’t share what makes you look funny, smart, or cool. Strangers share what makes them look funny, smart, or cool. If you’re on a budget, don’t worry about creating original content. Become a master of curating the right kind of content for your audience.
2. Post the content as often as possible.
Don’t burn out on this. Don’t commit to doing it every day if you really aren’t going to do it. It’s better to post once every week than every day for a week and then be silent for a month. Consistency is key.
3. Distribute your content.
I would say that more than 80% of your content time should be allotted for distribution, and only 20% to creation of content. Boost your Facebook posts, share your content on multiple social media platforms, do creative collaborations with other content creators and use influencers to reach a wider audience in your niche. Whatever you do, don’t forget to distribute- it matters.
4. Don’t stop until you’ve made it.
It’s easy to get frustrated from not seeing results overnight, but earning attention is like getting in the best shape of your life. It takes time and effort over an extended period of time.
If you have ever mastered a skill in your life, you’ll relate to the cadence of growing on social media.
Trust the process and commit to daily positive behaviors. Results are guaranteed.
You don’t need short-sighted tactics for quick growth. You don’t need social media automation tools. You don’t need the perfect hashtag. These tactics should only magnify and expose your content instead of replacing the need for these four pillars of growth.
Whatever your sphere of influence or subject matter:
Don’t grow because you have to.
Grow because you can.

Thank you for giving your time,
see you again!
I'm a writer, so I am practiced at writing rather quickly. Because of that, I find I spend much more time promoting my writing on social media than I do actually writing it. I've thought more than once recently that I need to hire a social media manager. It would give me so much more free time!
youre doing great buddy , keep going!
