That feeling when Poloniex is not working

in #poloniex8 years ago (edited)

You know that feeling when you want to sell SBD and Poloniex is not working.... ?
The Steem price is up and now Poloniex is experiencing some difficulties.

I got furious at my new computer and thought it wasn't functioning like it should.
I switched browser and still had the same issues with selling SBD for Bitcoin.
But then I looked at the Trollbox and saw this:

Their Twitter account said this 11 hours ago:

And just when I was about to write something about Poloniex needing to step up their game, @svk told me that it was all due to a DDoS attack. .

Well, I guess I just have to hang in there. After all, this has been a great crypto week for me :)

Hei kjære @susanne
@barbro fra Ramta kontoret her!

Hei @barbro! Det var jeg ikke klar over. Godt du har oversikten :)

I got all my crypto off all the exchanges because of this. It's just way too tricky to leave it on right now.

My advice if you are trying to sell large crypto orders is use multiple exchanges to spread your risk. Coinbase and Gemini are insured up to $250,000 loses but that still does not cover a whales potential lost of in the millions of USD. Always use a cold storage wallet unit you must sell on these centralized exchanges. If we had decentralized exchanges now that were liquid crypto investors would not have this worry. With this said I think the risk of major hack are extremely low with insured exchanges. In any case loses would hopefully be paid back in full by the exchange like Bitfinex did when they got hack last summer.

I can see why you did that :)

It's about time for a solid decentralized, blockchain based exchange that can't get DDoSed ..
Blocknet could be the bridge, let's see what the future holds :)

I totally agree. I have had a couple of annoying mishaps with Coinbase to mention one.

MAN!!! I feel you. I just started using poloniex for the first time this week too. I used to here little complaints here and there but yeah that was pretty annoying.

So annoying!! Ha ha..

Decentralized exchanges are key for stable crypto future.

Yeah, I agree.

Not a good time for problems but I guess it never is!

That is so true! :)

That is the reason i did not sell my steem -might be wrong but i am just too old for that kind of trading stress with a platform crashing in addition

That is probably a good strategy too. :)

I just tried to make a account there. And I never even got a confirmation e-mail.

I think they have some issues with the e-mails as well. I didn't get the confirmation mail when I finally was able to transfer some BTC to Coinbase.

oh thanks. Then I'll wait a little longer.

I was able to sell some just before the slowdown. ;-)

Yes, I also thought it was just very slow.
