I was proud to lead the fight to call for an audit of the Pentagon as one of Maine's two representatives on the 2016 Republican National Platform Committee. The amendment I sponsored passed and is an official Republican Party plank today.

As a fiscal conservative --- while I believe that national defense in the most important responsibility of the federal government --- it is clear that not every dollar that goes into the Pentagon is well spent.
Hundreds of billions in taxpayer money are often misplaced and unaccounted for at the Department of Defense, which has never received a full audit.
We have a responsibility to the taxpayers of America to ensure that every dollar allocated for defense is effectively used to defend our nation, not wasted on government bureaucracy.

The fact that this happens for the first time, is absolutely ridiculous. The shenanigans that went on there must be outrageous.
It is certainly well overdue.
