Not necessarily - although I'm not a fan, I'm not sure he had a choice in this situation. He would have looked bad either way. Sometimes it is better (or looks better) to take decisive action rather than sitting and hesitating.
If he fired him the week then it would had at least look like it made it made since. He did not because he thought Comey was on his team with how hurt Hillary's chances. He found out that Comey was going to play ball on the Russia investigation so he had to get rid of him.

Yes but he has to know that it won't kill the investigation and will only bring more scrutiny.
A normal person would think that. But his ego does not let him see things that way. He thinks being President is being King.
