If you're allowed to appoint the person who is going to investigate you, then that's a huge conflict of interest.
For all the checks and balances that the US political system is supposed to have, this whole fiasco exposes that it's just another flimsy house of cards.
Most systems are though. Not sure if it will ever get fixed.
Not any time soon. The system is too entrenched. Just as monarchy isn't really about a king or queen. It is about the entire ruling class and the system that they want to protect.
