Is China flexing its muscle in the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean?

in #politics8 years ago (edited)

Today's paper contained some disturbing news about China which claims almost all of the South China Sea and is disputed by the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan. While a UN tribunal is set to deliver its verdict on the Philippines' petition challenging China's claims on July 12, Beijing, which boycotted its proceedings, said it will not honour the judgement. While asserting its claims on the South China Sea, China has been saying that it never obstructed freedom of navigation, which India, US and other international community have been emphasising as it is the busiest commercial shipping route.

But at the same time China raised vociferous objections to US naval ships in the area especially in the waters close to artificial islands built by it. For further info please check the link below.

I'm from PH. The ruling will definitely be in favor of PH and it would be good for all the SEA nations that have a stake in the parts of the ocean that China wants to claim and have a dominion on. Now, if the current president of PH decides to disavow the ruling as per Chinese demand it would be a disaster. The bilateral talks and train transit project that the president of PH wants from China is not worth giving up the claim of the West Philippine sea.

Yes but we will wait for the ruling which even I think would favour PH but the way China is flexing its muscle will only create further apprehension in the region.
