Race still determines so much in America. Hillary Clinton alluded to it in her last Presidential debate with Donald Trump. But this was not something we didn't already know. Everyone knows that wealth is becoming even more unevenly distributed due to the rise globalisation. But are there other factors at play too?
The institute of FIscal Studies now reckons it would take 228 years for blacks to reach as much wealth prosperity as whites right now. The Forbes rich list of the top 100 billionaires shows us that they hold more wealth than all blacks combined.
History and legacy has been the root cause of this gulf in wealth. There has plainly been a hidden cost to being a black African-American. In the post-war boom years, lots of assistance was given to white middle class families in the form of federal assistance, whereas none was given to black families. Government intervention caused the formation of a white middle class, from which blacks were completely excluded.
So how do we solve all this? This would require political action of a radical nature to make reparations to blacks to allow them to catch up to the whites. This would prove deeply unpopular. The mere idea than none of this has been discussed politically shows us that most things have not changed.
If Black Lives truly matter, then this needs to move further up the political agenda sooner, rather than later.
@mindhunter (a concerned white!)
Reparations will never be made....and so the cycle continues on....
It will be interesting to see how Clinton or Trump will handle race relations once elected President.
(Would you like your racism blatant or systematic?)
Not Black Lives Matter - All Human Lives Matter.
It all feels like a karmic puzzle the whites can't quite solve!?
The impossible nut that no politician can crack!
As tough as the unemployment nut - the two are so closely enmeshed.
Who is that dude??
I will check him out! Thanks!
