Being a victim is rewarded in American society. That is the sad fact. Whoever can most successfully play the victim card is the winner.
There are many examples of people faking miscellaneous crimes against themselves to elicit sympathy, money or protected status. Of course, this is also done out of spite and revenge.
For those accused of "hateful acts" the outcome is rarely fair or even-handed. The mob descends and rough justice is meted out. Whether the person is actually guilty of anything REAL is only an afterthought.
