US Politics, an Outsider's Perspective. Part-2

in #politics4 months ago

The way that the Democrats have put their support behind VP Kamala Harris was fast. Only 24 hours after President Biden bid farewell to a second term and news outlets have reported that she's already secured the numbers to become the next Democratic Party nominee. I think it's safe to assume that she will become the first woman presidential candidate, among other "firsts ".

The democratic party looks rejuvenated. Only a few hours after the withdrawal of President Biden and the divisive atmosphere pervading the left have seemingly disappeared.

Kamala Harris' first salvo in the speech at HQ showed how she will be running the campaign - and it looks to be what supporters have been waiting and wanting to see: she will be prosecuting Donald Trump in this election campaign.

I'm excited to watch a debate between the two; Harris, as the former prosecutor and Trump, the convicted former president. This will be a test to see how he and JD Vance, whom I feel is a copy of the former president (disclaimer: I have yet to watch more clips of him speaking to see if this really is the case) will respond.

The Republicans need to pivot their campaign quickly to be redirected at Harris instead of the president as the latest tweets from Trump is still attacking Biden instead of Harris and Vance's speech on his first solo event in the campaign hasn't found the mark, yet. At least from my limited knowledge. Of course, I will be looking forward to sew how his message develops in the next few days and how powerful it becomes as he gains more confidence as the campaign progresses.

Finally, there's something to be said of the 81 million dollars raised just 24 hours after Harris started her quest for the nomination. Saying that they, too, have the funding needed for a presidential campaign. It might well be enough to counter balance the 45 million a month pledged by Elon Musk to Trumps campaign. If money makes the world go round, then we will be seeing a full-blown race between these two.

I don't know enough about the financials of US presidential campaigns to really assess how this will be used and if this is enough, but I know that this is a lot of money. And that is my Tuesday blog post.

Thanks for dropping by and spending time on my wordy blog.

All the best.

Things always seem easy the first day, but she has a lot of tests to pass yet. She's not the first woman candidate for president, that was Hillary Clinton. Harris also was a career prosecutor with a reputation for being ruthless which will come back to haunt her. I still don't like either candidate even though Biden is out. It would be nice to see a couple 40 year old candidates rather than these older generations. A third party with any chance of actually winning would be nice too. Just my thought from someone in the US!

That's right. Hillary Clinton was the first woman. I totally forgot. Coming in late to the game might be advantageous for Harris as the opposing party prepared for Biden. Polls said Trump still ahead, but we will see a better picture after a few weeks. Younger candidates, for sure. I was thinking about the ages of Biden and Trump and thought why they haven't passed on the torch to younger politicians yet.
