The Media is destroying the world.

in #politics7 years ago

People say that Governments, and bankers and big business are destroying the world. But I call BS on this. The idea of these organisations (in general) is to make the world a better place.

The true culprit of universal destruction is the media. I'll go a step further and say more precisly that its social media and 24hour on demand news services.

With the advent of instantanious news feeds, a generation craves immediate release of information. But that doesn't mean that the information being released is always correct or presented in the correct context.

Stories today are being released with little to no factual evidence, actual journalism is well and truely out the window. Media sources generally have an agenda be it Pro Trump, Pro Renewables, Pro Pro Pro. Its rare to find a news reporting outlet that is actually journalistic rather than directed by an agenda.

If we rely on the media to educate ourselves about world events today, we are going to all go mental. Take the top page artigles on News.com.au today at 9am

Apart from the Trump story, how on earth does any of this rate as a top news story?

Can anyone tell us what policies the Australian Government is working on at the moment? Or do you just know the rhetoric of the news about Renewable Energy targets.

Can anyone explain the situation in Myanmar or the elections coming up in Uganda?

Actual world events that really matter to the world don't even get a look in, and this is making people stupid and ignorant to the world they are living in.

This is why political parties that are 100% bad news for the country get elected and further destroy the country. Biased media push stories down the publics neck slagging off the other party (happens both ways so we can't argue which party is worse), and the only way to win an election is to straight up LIE about something to trick the dripfed public into voting a certain way.

Take the current government in Canberra, say what you want about Turnbull but I think he has the potential to be a great leader. But what are the media saying, He's doing nothing, He's copying Left Wing policies, he doesn't have support, Abbot would be so much better, etc etc.

If the media just

then he would be able to govern, he'd be able to make a rational argument and present policies.
If you chastise a child every 2 seconds, the child will withdraw and never achieve anything. The same is true with politicians.

I think that may be a good place to leave this rant, but I'd love to continue it in the comments if you want to discuss further or come chat to me on Discord I'm often found on the Team Australia channel speaking rubbish.

Be sure to upvote and follow along, and please do comment, I get more joy from comments than I do votes.

Very True, the government of, by, and for the people is killed by the media. We need to get involved at the local level and take over from the ground up. Elect your neighbors to City Councils and school boards. If they are "party" supported, don't back them. Party=media.

so true, great post

It's not a rant. I feel you 100%

What is truly destroying the world is the lack of moral principles and value. Nowadays it is only money and greedy that counts. Morality is becoming a luxury, unfortunately.

Couldn't agree more. The world elites own all the news media so it's those people that say what gets reported on. They have their iwn agenda and well let's just say it isn't for the benefit of the common man.

very true mate

Great post! I'd add that I think the current state of new media that you are pointing out is largely due to a confluence of two factors. One: most media today, and especially "accepted" news media is delivered by large, corporate entities. This makes them extremely vulnerable to social and political manipulation and you see that in the form of nearly every outlet having its own "slant." Two: these entities have persisted through a period in world history that is (more and more) characterized by rapid paced communication. Their modes of thinking and researching are outdated; this, coupled with their aforementioned corporate nature, sets the wrong economic incentives for them to do their job correctly. That is, they are rewarded for getting stories out first and getting the most attention, not for being the most accurate or informed. Fortunately, I think time and the free market will fix the problems with the media. I may try to connect on Discord, have a good one!

Thanks for the reply mate, and you're correct.
