Ratepayers will no longer be charged the provincial portion of the harmonized sales tax on their hydro bills, Premier Kathleen Wynne’s government announced in a speech from the throne.“It recognizes that the cost of electricity is now stretching family budgets.”Eliminating the 8-per-cent provincial portion of the 13-per-cent harmonized sales tax on hydro bills for homes, small businesses, and farms should save the average household $130 a year.
