Good evening everyone. this post is for ontario canada residents with regard to the current state of our provincial government. For those unfamiliar with the current news, there was a byelection in Sault St. Marie ontario a few days ago.
The riding has been a Liberal party stronghold since 1981 and the results of this byelection were considered an important bell weather for the upcoming provincial election (June 2018). The current Liberal government is the most scandal ridden government in canadian history with the second most scandalous government being the Liberal government when lead by dalton mcguinty.
Fortunately, when the results were tallied, not only had the Liberal candidate not won but in fact came 3rd behind the ndp. The ridiculously high electricity rates caused by the wynne government factored heavily in the outcome. The balance of power doesn't change in the provincial parliament but at least it is a sign that after nearly 20 years of successive Liberal governments (during which time Ontario went from being the richest province to being a "have not" province requiring equalization payments) people have finally started to wake up.
Here's hoping this election result will lead to a change in government; one that is sorely needed.
