2018 is the year of progresives to make a difference

in #politics7 years ago

After months and months of waiting, the year of the midterms, has arrived. This may be the year where progressives get enough political traction to thwart the republican majority. Ever since Trump won back in 2016 the democrats had their clocks cleaned and it wasn't because they we 'radical leftist socialists' it was because they represented a corporate establishment that ignored the people for too long, Resulting in an epic fallout by the seemingly populist Donald Trump. The problem with Trump is his straight shooter personality is bullshit acting 101. I'm sorry to say that the heartland of this country has been duped, bamboozled and manipulated by this shady con man and the GOP. So what's next for the democrats in 2018? Will they rig their primaries again and lose to a more embarrassing candidate, or will the party finally recognize that the only way to appeal to the working class is moving more to the left? I hope the latter happens, because lets be honest, the true populists that will craft policies that will look out for your grandma in Kansas is the Bernie wing of the party. What policies did Trump's GOP support? Protecting trade deals that outsource jobs, making medicaid and medicare harder to access, eliminating net neutrality, etc. There are going to be nail biting primaries that will decide the fate of both parties. The most important primary is in one of the most liberal states in the country, California where corporate apologetic Dianne Feinstein is going up against progressive Alison Hartson. Most news outlets had a dismissive attitude towards Hartson, and some outlets didn't even mention her name! I honestly believe that Feinstein will lose this election because of this alone, she's been in the senate since the early 90's. Most of the people are going to be tired of her. There is one election that could wipe Joe Manchin off the map. Progressive Paula Jean believes in eliminating coal jobs and looking for greener jobs for former miners to work in to aid in a healthier life. Joe Manchin is going to have the primary of his life because of his ties to big coal and his support for unsafe work conditions for miners. There is one last primary that I am pretty interested in located in Arkansas. This time it's a REPUBLICAN running on Universal Healthcare. Since that neighbor Alabama went slightly dem back in 2017, I believe that Robb Ryerse will be one of the first republicans to bring the GOP back to it's progressive roots. Most republicans in his primary will slam his populist message by regurgitating that socialism doesn't work and other vague cliches that are ripe with propaganda. I honestly believe that Robb will win his primary because remember when Trump went full Bernie Sanders in the primaries saying I'm not going to cut your medicare and I'm not going to cut your social security? It will just be the 2016 GOP primaries all over again, but this guy is not an oompa loompa, and he's an honest true progressive. If you wish to support these candidates visit Brand New Congress, Wolf PAC and Justice Democrats to chip in a buck or two to help their mission of bringing policies that will benefit everyone instead of the one percent.
