At the heart of International relations is diplomacy which demands that leaders are cautious, and mindful of their speeches and utterances. On this note: Fred Riggs said there is little difference between an ambassador and a lady.
In his words: when an ambassador says 'yes', he mean maybe, when he says 'maybe', he means no, and a good ambassador will never say no. On the other hand, when a lady says no, she means maybe, when she says maybe, she means yes, and a good lady will hardly say yes.
The implication of this is that diplomats are expected to be tactical in speeches, body language, and actions. President Trump is not one of those people. He is direct, unapologetic, and confrontational where the need demand. He says it the way he sees it.
At his age,you would not blame him, he has seen it all, so he would rather say the truth and die than hide on the cloak of diplomacy. Another factor, possibly, that has contributed to his unapologetic stand is perhaps the fact that he is self-made billionaire. So the aura of wealth is equally responsible for 'his saying it as I see it.'
At the UN Conference, the largest gathering of Leaders of the World, Trump direct attack on North Korea, Venezuela, and Iran is one that is uncommon since I become of age. From the Rocket Man, to the corrupt ineptitude regime, rogue and murderous regime, he was unsparing in expressing his feelings, thoughts and position.
Love him or hate him, one thing you cannot take away from President Trump is his love for America and the Americans. This evidently shows in his speech as has always been. I wish all African countries will demonstrate such patriotic zeal and actions to the course of their respective States and the Africa continent as a whole.
As good and lucid President Trump speech was, one thing is clear that he has created more enemies for the America and Americans through his speech, consciously or unconsciously.
It is often said that the best defence is attack, perhaps, this is the diplomatic tool that he has chosen to relate with nation-states especially those perceive to be antithetical to the ideals and interest of the United States; or he is just diplomatically tactless, only time will tell.
Essentially therefore, one may be first to ask if the US is still committed to Promotion of International Peace and Cooperation among the human race. This is because there is a brewing storm capable of creating the third world war if not nipped in the bud. But who will bears the cat?
To me, Trump seems not to have a permanent ally as even the traditional friends of US are not in agreement with him. From Britain to France, China to Mexico, things appears to be falling apart, yet Trump appears unperturbed by the brewing storm.
Perhaps, Trump has not come to bring peace to the world but war and storms. Unfortunately, there is enough natural storms to battle with at the home front- from Hurricane Katrina to Hurricane Irma, my heart and prayers are with the great people of Houston, Florida and Alabama.
God save America!
