THE VERDICT IS IN...The first ever Steemit Poker League official tournament series kicked off last night, and we are proud to say it was a heehaw of a success.

The play was fierce; with 50 players and 9 tables, the competition at times was "a real blood game over at Teddy's KGB's place."- Rounders: best poker movie of all time

Early Round Action
Our very own Tuck was locked in an early battle with @lexiconical . Tuck was crippled to 1500 chips when his AJ failed to hold up against his opponent's A6. Tuck would come firing back shortly after, when he "called a raise out of the small blind with deuces like a boss." He ended up flopping a set which took down lexiconical's hand.

@Bigpchef made some early moves as well. One hand in particular we found Bigp vs @Nicnas which started out with a "prayer to the poker gods for a hand" by Nic.

Bigp has AA in the hole and raises to 270 in late position. It is folded around to Nic who calls. Flop comes 3d Ac Kd; Nic checks, Bigp checks. Turn falls Kc; Nic shoves all in for 583. Bigp instacalls; river is 10d. Bigp wins hand with aces full, and knocks Nic out of the tournament.

And what would poker be without a little friendly table banter?
Not sure what went down prior to me launching the table, but here is what was witnessed...
@Kryptik : "I'll show you by playing like a maniac."
@Kryptik : "Limp."
@tb0t89 : "Gonna comment on all my darn play?"
@Kryptik : "Yes!"
@tb0t89 : "Here is a donk bet for ya."

Tuck & Bigp's Demise
Somehow both Tuck & Bigp were taken down by seasoned poker veterans, @brnofre and @theewoolf respectively.

Tuck's tournament came to a sudden halt when he found himself on the button, and staring down at AJ. UTG (@brnofre) raises, Tuck having witnessed Alexander raise previously as UTG+1, reraises, thinking Alexander is making a move. Alexander shoves, Tuck calls. Alexander turns over AA. Tuck needed a Q on the river to eek out a straight, unfortunately for him, it was not meant to be.

Bigp's untimely fall from grace was not a pleasant site. Blinds were 60/120 at this point and Bigp looks down to see Ad6d in the small blind. UTG+1 (@theewoolf) raises to 240, Bigp calls. We have3 players, flop comes 6c Ac 9d , Bigp checks, BB checks, Ricardo bets 360. Bigp smooth calls, BB folds. Turn is Js. Bigp checks, hoping to drop a check raise on Ricardo's ass. Ricardo bets 720, Bigp shoves 3,136 chips, Ricardo calls, and turns over A9. River is an A. Ricardo takes down 7172 and goes on to take second place in the tournament. Bigp cries a little on the inside, and smoke a joint.

A couple of exciting hands mid way through the tourney
Blinds are now 120/240 @steemspoker raises 480 UTG (Ad10h), @theewoolf raises 1333 (AsJc). It is folded around to Steemspoker and he shoves 3460 into the pot. Ricardo calls. Flop comes 2h Js 7c 5d 3s and Ricardo takes down 16,564 chips with a pair of jacks.

Mr. Ricardo (@theewolf) finds himself in the middle of yet another exciting hand; albeit, this time on the losing end. UTG+1 Konstantine (@lebekons) shoves 1678 into the pot, Ricardo calls on the button, and the action then comes around to Eee Ee (@eirik) who calls all in for 2020. Pot size 5584. Konstantine (Ad10d), Ricardo (Kc10c), Eee Ee (JsAc), flop 4d 7h 9s 9c 6h
Eee Ee takes down the pot with ace high, jack kicker.

And with that we reach our first break.

Chip leaders after first break

1 hour 50 minutes into the tournament and we are approaching the final table. With 7 players left, a bubble boy will soon emerge. On table 3 we find @chiefmappster , @nathanjones , and @tb0t89 going at it thee handed. The blinds are up to 800/1600, Chiefmappster (As5s) shoves all in for 3370, Nathan (8c9c) contemplates for a bit, and makes the call. tbot calls as well. Flop comes 10h 6d 7h, Nathan goes all in for 27,265 chips in order to isolate Paul. tbot folds, and the hands are turned over. Turn comes 8h, river is a 7s. Nathan wins 10,710 chips with two pair.

Sorry, Paul. We couldn't resist. All in good fun. We'll be roasting the next bubble boy as well :D

Ladies & Gentleman, we have reached the final table. Watch it below.

The last 5 mins of the final table ended in grand fashion. Ricardo had almost an 8 to 1 chip lead over Alexander who turned up the juice to take down the last 4 out of 6 hands. After which Ricardo says, "Nice run, bitch!" and Alexander replies, "I run god like, sir."

That's a wrap. Please join us next time as we go even more in depth into the final table from the first Steemit Poker League series tournament, and we unveil the bounty leader board details.

Don't miss our next game. You could be the next winner.

"He ended up flopping a set which took down lexiconical's hand."

Bah, I had an open ended straight draw, or a flush. I forget which, but one of those roughly equivalent draws. As I recall, you made me fold it.

Suggestion: We might want to hold off registration until an hour before the next tournament. If other tables were like ours, we saw about a 50% afk rate. I've never played a 3-handed tournament before, it was quite different.

Thanks for setting everything up, good stuff.

There were no other games going on. Just people not able to make it or in some cases, they just joined to AFK hoping to make some easy SBD. It's hard to wrangle up people, I want to lock them in as early as possible. If they really want to play, they'll be there and most were. We only had 4 out of the 50 go AFK.

That ought to be a huge success on this platform and, considering the crowd present, an exciting time to partake and/or observe!

Thanks for sharing the news and namaste :)

Great Idea tuck, it was fun. looking forward to the next one.

and who took you out? I offered a 2 SBD bounty on you

Β 7 years agoΒ (edited)Β

Thanks for helping test everything before the tourney!

Did someone say 'donkey'?!

That's one heck of a review! I can only tell you that you'll have to write about me next time because... I'll probably be a bubble boy (yea, after yesterday, I realized that I cannot play like I used to anymore).

Hey @tuck-fheman this was a blast to play, I hope to be able to play in round 2. If you get a chance check out the new fantasy baseball game I am sponsoring through @fantasy.sports. You can check out the intro post to the game here:

https://steemit.com/sports/@fantasy.sports/usd5-sbd-to-the-winner-daily-fantasy-baseball-free-to-play-fan-duel-starts-monday-june-26th

Any help you could give to help spread the word about this would be greatly appreciated.

What is the minimum requirement to participate in the poker game? What is the collateral?

It is completely free good, sir.

Thanks for your quick reply. Is there any wining price? What happen if you lose the game?

Basically the site we're playing on is a completely free to play site. When you sign up you'll be given some play money chips that you can use to buy into the tournaments.

Tuck and BigP are then using the results of those tournaments to pay out in Steem rewards!

There's really no way you can lose. Those rewards are being funded by the up votes on these Steemit Poker League posts, so be sure to give them your support!

Bryan, thanks for explaining the detail. Things are clear to me now. Let 's Play and have fun!

I think there is a minimum Steemit rep requirement of 30 though... here's an upvote to get you on your way there.

Thank you very much Bryan. Really appreciate your kind gesture.

Pop up an intro post. You should be put over the 30 mark with that.

Man I just watched that video holy shit thats awesome how you did the intro and transition into our game. Mad props to you

Ty sir

you're welcome bud what a great idea.

A big thanks to @bigpchef for doing this article on the tourney and especially for recording it!

As The League grows we hope to be able to better document hands/events as they unfold, stream live events and more.

Immediately after this tournament finished the first thing we said was, we need to have a backup plan in case this site goes down for whatever reason.

So that's exactly what we did after the tourney and we've setup not only a backup option for The League, but we've created an entire new League for more advanced players looking for a little more challenge, more games and much better software.

More details to come!

Very fun time!
