What are some characteristics of a good poker player?

Ok, after playing poker for about a decade and currently doubting my life calling, I feel this is a question where I can give you some wisdom.

Poker is a game of information. There is information most poker player are aware of: blinds, starting hands, position etc. And there is information some poker players are aware of: playing style of individual players, gesticulation reads (or timing reads on-line, good book: Mike Caros book of tells), advanced plays, etc.

And there is information that just is not that: superstition, running hot, downswings etc.

The best poker players know the first kind of information s in and out. They read all the strategy books and know all the plays available to others. They are looking closely at everyone s playing style and moves and based on that decide how aggressive they will be and what is the move with the highest percentage of winning or loosing the least.

They ignore the third kind of information. They are not superstitious at all. All they believe in is the right decisions and a proper bankroll management.

Maybe all of this sounds straight forward. But once you get into the grind and start winning and loosing significant amounts of money it is, to say the very least, hard to keep a clear mind.

So, we could say that the characteristics would be: knowledgeable, awareness, hard working, structured, self-organized, emotionless, unpredictable, patience, intuitive.

There are some others, but I think these are the most important.

Cheers and gl :)
