Over the last week I've leveled past lvl 21 and have learned quite a few things about playing Playing PokémonGO.
Listed below are some tips and strategies I've learned by trial and error so you don't have too!
1. LEVELING UP Should be your #1 priority!
- You see, every Pokemon's CP(combat points) is randomized completely from your Level!
- CP is one of the variables you should be looking at when you decide weather or not you are going to put some of your hard earned Stardust and Candies into a Pokemon.
- Not only do you seemingly find better Pokemon when you level up at higher levels, but the max You can boost Pokemon actually go up each trainer level as well!
- What this also means, is that when Raids/Super events happen(which is the only chance you'll get at collecting the Legendary Pokemon) is if you are lower level, you'll have weaker Pokemon, making it more difficult to actually win the event and get the legendary Pokemon. Not only that, but let's say you are on a team that actually does win.... but you are low level... your legendary Pokemon you get will be a weakling compared to higher level people.
2. Now that we know that Leveling up should be your #1 priority, Here's some ways to boost your xp as fast as possible!
- Lucky Egg is an item that doubles the amount of XP you get from doing the typical xp tasks listed below:
- Like Catching a Pokemon, which can give an extra 100-200 xp per catch depending on if you can get an excellent throw or not.
- Double the xp from 500 to 1000 for each new pokemon you catch(this is very important when you first start off, if you want to level the fastest, make sure when you first start catching pokemon to have a lucky egg going to maximize the xp you get!
- Hatching Eggs Is a very important way to get xp as you can get up to 1,000 xp, 2,000 if you use an egg and the pokemon ends up being something you haven't caught before!
Now that you know the Lucky Egg is your key to maximizing your XP, here's another way to use it if you aren't willing to spend much money to advance as fast as possible!
Save up your candies on Pokemon that only require 10-12 candies to evolve. Save where you have 100+ candies and at least 10 of that Pokemon type, use your Lucky Egg, and then evolved them all to the next level(don't evolve the 3rd step as the goal is to maximize your xp best as possible.
These are some XP Tips I've found that have helped me hit past lvl 21, soon to be 22 in under 5 days.
Now that you know about xp, the next tip and things you need to know is that not all Pokemon are created Equal....(not just CP). What I mean is that if you pay attention, some Pokemon Have more HP, some have designations in height and weight of XS or XL, and if you look at the Pokemon's abilities, they change a lot! Why does this matter???
Well it matters if you are looking to build the strongest team.
For example:
If you catch a Geodude that has a ground attack and an earth attack, it may not be as strong as a Geodude who has just ground attacks...
Let me explain...
One of the things you will be doing when battling at Gyms is trying to bring the Best Counter Pokemon to it as possible. So Most Pokemon can be heavily countered by another Pokemon Element. So Fire Burns Grass(which does double damage etc), Water To Fire, Etc...
Why this matters is because if you are looking for the best possible team, you will want Pure Pokemon at some point. Rock/Ground Demolishes Fire in my experience. So having both attacks be Ground is beneficial if you are looking to take out a Gym with a ton of Fire Pokemon.
So now that you know about the different abilities that show up, and their importance, you should be on the lookout to look at the various stats on them as well.. Some abilites attack for 6 damage, while some 15, some supers from 10 to 60.

I would also add, SAVE YOUR STARDUST! It is worthless to use stardust at the beginning of the game. I would recommend waiting until at least level 12 until you decide to actually use it, even then I would be cautious not to use too much. The reason is because you can quickly level up and find a more powerful Pokemon than the one you are wasting the star dust on. I would recommend using it only when you find a strong pokemon that you know you can use for a while.
