The Safari: A Poem

Eddie took a steamship to the African savannah,
With Him he took his beloved dog Rosanna.
Riding in his jeep,
He drove at night to prevent himself from falling asleep.

He was amazed to see giraffes, gazelles, and other exotic animals,
Alive with their mesmerizing smells.
Walking along a savannah one day with his trusty dog,
Eddie saw something hidden within the fog.

It was a giant silver and black gorilla,
But with a heart bigger than anyone he'd seen in the flats of Tortilla.
No one would believe the creature that he was seeing,
And even if they did their first instinct would probably be to run from this being.

As Eddie layed down his rifle on the ground,
The creature let out this soft sound.
And as the gorilla walked on its knuckles,
Eddie's knees began to buckle.

When suddenly the gorilla lifted both him and Rosanna up in his hand.
Far above the grassy land.
When suddenly the gorilla seemed to smile,
For he hadn't seen a human in a while.

As he lifted them up and put Eddie and Rosanna in a tree,
He began to flee,
When it chased down a lion who was hunting his new friends.
That was the day Eddie gave up the rifle when he saw life with a new lens.
