Venus (a poem)

A wanderer, the ancients thought me a god,
They named me for my beauty and tranquil facade;
For they did not know of my hostility to life;
My atmosphere is a noxious greenhouse
With clouds of vitriolic vapours.
I am Lucifer, the morning star,
I am ofttimes seen at the first light of dawn
Or in the twilight gloom of nightfall.

I was born with seven siblings
From the same cloud of dust that gave birth to our radiant father.
I have four enormous gaseous brothers;
The most colossal fancies himself a king;
He flies through the firmament with his many companions in tow.
The next was celebrated in antiquity
With gift giving and joyful revelry.
His festival is celebrated to this day,
However his role has been long forgotten;
He is the most lavish of all my family.
My next two brothers are the most distant of all;
Named after the empyreal and abyssal rulers of old.

I have two brothers smaller than me,
One is the quickest of messengers,
The other is a belligerent warrior.
I have a twin sister,
A pale blue dot just like me.
She is the mother of life,
You already know her, better than you'll ever know me.

New here and had this idea knocking around in my head for a while, thought I'd give it a go.
