we were supposed to be better than them
not
stuck in the same place
with the the same problems with a special twist
we were supposed to succeed
to make it out of here
not move back home
with nowhere left to go
when the jobs dried up
and we were stuck with an education
on loan
borrowed from the upper classes
that tricked us
into thinking
it would work
this time
for sure
we were supposed to have
2.5 kids
a picket fence
a dog
not debt that could feed
a small country for years
and be called children
even after we passed 30
but still lived in our
childhood rooms
we were supposed to be
what they were
only better
not this
hollow-eyed generation
of regret

I love this poem <3. What "should be" can really muck us up for reality.
It really can. Thanks for stopping by!

Love this poem. It's so real and honest because I know that there are others that feel this way too.
Thank you.
