Fourth of July Traffic

Sparkplug
When's the last time you woke up at 1?
Mattress on the floor
Blinds seep sunlight and fluoride
Music playing softly
Screams to turn it off

I met someone this year that I thought was electric,
I dipped my feet into their static
I felt no current and left

1, 2, 3, it's almost independents day
When's the last time you saw your neighbor?

I ate cantaloupe on a tire swing
And watched fireworks sizzle out

Potted plants and broken bricks
Divisions on our sidewalk
Walk two by two in line

American dream, canned tuna, what's the difference
We all just sit in our distention

I have dreams of fist fights and orgys
I've slept with the same teddy bear my mom did
Wrapped in my arms like a zig zag on a loosey
I don't call this home but it's close

Sharing parking lots
Salsa stained t-shirts
Cheap flag print swim bottoms
This is what you pay for

Gas light ignition
Veterans sweat when they hear pops
Baseball caps with make it great slogans
Divisions on the sidewalk
