I've always loved watching bees scurry and flit about, from the azalea bushes around my childhood home, to the various clover, herbs, and wildflowers that we intentionally grow for them in our current backyard. Nearly everything about them intrigues me, such as their dance-based communication systems and collaborative building methods. One of my favorite gifts was a selection of six types of honey from my wife, and I even designed honeycomb into my wedding band. The point is, I'm into bees and here's a poem and 3D printed sculpture inspired by our industrious friends.
go from the village and work for your mother
she only asks that you feed the entire world
go take those seeds and plant them elsewhere
diversity appreciates your sharing
you tired and golden angel
eat your ambrosia
oh feeder of the world
you arrogant city with your reckless productivity
you spread out your ways before they are known
leaping over arms and jumping blindly
into fields of gold painted rice
but you do not eat where you work
or fine china delivers an antidote
oh feeder of the world
now wipe off the blood that has covered your eyes
you ought to have bathed by now
this filth is heavy and weighing you down
you cannot wake from exhaustion
sharpen your scythe
and eat from the dirt
oh feeder of the world
you could go to France or teach your own town
and i will love your diligence regardless
you deserve a rest that you will never receive
you toil ‘til you die even when it kills you
oh feeder of the world
