Dusk's Foreboding

How many days was it since I last saw you?

Today was one of those lazy afternoons that I don't have anything to do.

Looking out the window.

Seeing this picture.

It makes my heart ache and bleed with tears.

The sky with its orange glow

Brings to mind happy memories,

When I was in your arms.

You're holding me tightly by my waist.

Your breath sent tingles down my spine.

You spoke of promises, you spoke of love.

Years have come and gone,

And those promises are no more.

Love songs tend to make me sad.

All I see is you singing to their tune.

The music brings tears to my eyes,

Everytime I hear them.

The strength it takes to hold myself in

Doesn't compare to the feelings that want to come out.

The dusk's orange hues

Forebodes the internal strife that ensues.

It will be night soon.

My life will be enveloped with darkness.

The dusk. The promise.

Some things never last.

When I got to read @maverickinvictus' fiction contest, I was struck by the photograph that will be the subject of the entries. And since I am not confident with prose just yet, I am trying poetry. If you're interested to join, please check the link out. Thank you for reading.
