An Ode to Steemit Posting

in #poetry7 years ago

Have you ever had a posting
That reached a hundred likes?
While waiting quite impatiently
The refresh key you strike.

Your post is but a minute old,
But you sit there and stare.
You know the whales must be watching,
You're fishing for their ware.

Two cents, ten cents, A dollar, Huzzah!
Then nothing, not even views now
Has your post hit its highest peak?
Defeat you won't allow.

You bomb the chats, and discord too!
To all you spread the word.
This post of mine it must be great!
I know it's not a turd.

But as time creeps, you're up too late,
Your day is at an end.
You slink and sulk in to your room,
And crash upon your bed.

With restless feet you toss and turn,
Check your phone one last time.
Still no views or comments are found,
And you've exhausted all replies.

You drift asleep, heart in disdain,
Your dream the trending page.
Mountains of crypto piled high,
Goodbye minimum wage.

Awake at last as alarms ring,
Your morning has begun.
Eyes still foggy and vision blurred,
Your phone reflects the sun.

And yet, still nothing, now enraged,
Your curse the steemit gods!
While other posts, not half as good,
Become new frontpage stars.

This will not stand, you must refute!
Proclaim your rightful place!
Keyboard hot with fingers a blur,
Typing with hateful haste.

Nothing is fair! It's all porn's fault,
The whales must circle jerk.
The system's rigged, those little shits,
The dolphins only lurk!

You snarl and write, an exposée!
Will put them in their place,
To hell with your reputation,
You'll give them ALL a taste!

No more sourcing your images!
The war has just begun!
But just before you hit submit
You check again, and one.

One huge upvote! From @randowhale!
Max of fifty percent!
A like, a follow, fifteen bucks!
@winstonwolfe 's SD spent!

Notifications in chrome abound,
Replies are coming in.
@giftedgaia says "Hey there man,
This post's surely a win".

Back in the editor a draft
A post dripping with sin
Right-click, select, highlight it all
Delete it for the win.

You've better posts, you're not the one,
To spout out drama things.
There's DIYs and StoryTrax,
Just waiting in the wings.

So off to work, you have to go,
Can't yet quit your day job.
Your morals are intact at least,
You're not a steemit snob.

You'll post again and sometime soon,
About something you love.
And follow those whose things you like
And work to rise above.

Back when blocktrades handed out votes like candy in 2016 I had two back to back $300 posts : /

Good times

Nice! Don't we all dream of such days?

Holy geez...I was around in mid 2016 and some how never got run over with blocktrades vote. I'd like to get some of that candy..lol.

Lol it was awesome for sure. I used to get the curie bot ($20ish) almost every other post. Now i'm lucky to get a buck. Still at it tho

Damn, I need to take you to the casino with me! I was blessed with curie a handful of times when it first started - feels like ages ago. I hear ya man, been grinding for 11 months. Steem on!

In my first ten days I had two poems both clear $200. Man I was buzzing. Thought, well hell, this is easy, I'm a hit! Then weeks of topping out at 12 or fifteen cents... Oh discordia, woe unto me, all is Lost! World goes dark... But slow and steady, my rewards grow. I now know those two big post were NOT the norm. I'm ok with steady little gains... But the come down off that initial high sure was a bummer.

Yeah, that rush can hit hard in the beginning eh? I've had a couple of big ones too, and though I'd never draft such a snarky piece as reference in the above, I've seen so many new bloggers do just that and thought I'd express the sentiment that we've all had, whether we've acted on it or not lol.

Funny cause it's true! Back to my blog for one final refresh!

I know the feels!

The pleasure of discord and being able to hear the voice behind the magic! Nice job!

Thanks! I'll have to do a proper recording tomorrow!
