EPIPHANY

in #poetry6 years ago (edited)

Having seen and heard of a lot of horrors, ranging from blatant murder, mass killings, rapes, paedophilia, serial murders, grotesque war incidents and lots more... It is quite normal for even the most optimistic of persons to lose hope, and wonder as did the poet, why bother? However, when we consider the wonderful complexities of the world we live in, the things I choose to call miracles such as the miracle of life, the energy possessed by the sun, the very air we breathe, our galaxy and lots more, hope begins to return. The truth remains though, Everyone sees, not everyone knows... Everyone thinks, not everyone understands... It sometimes takes an extra push to come to the realization... That extra push... That external intervention, that is what I choose to call EPIPHANY! Enjoy...

EPIPHANY

Down by the river Ethiope
With my feet covered by the gentle waves
I fell into a sought of oriental contemplation
About the futility of the human rat race
The struggle in vain
What becomes of a man in this life
What becomes of him when he dies
Like a deaf mute with all vision lost
I ask myself, why bother?

And then as the winds gently caressed my face
It all came to me like an armyworm to maize
Everyone gets a new life
Not everyone gets to keep it
The end of one
The beginning of another
A love lost
A love gained
A life lost
A life earned
A mournful outcry in the evening
A joyful cry in the morning
Who knows what is to come?

For all its complexities
Our world is simple and fair
With equal opportunities rare
The rich and the poor
The old and the young
To all the darkness whispers
So that the future vain men fear
And Their bowels the faithless wet
Only a few are spared
For only a few know
Everyman dies
Not every man really lives...
