The title Only Love Can Save Me is heavily inspired from Kesha's song title: Only Love Can Save Us Now. I chose this title because, growing up catholic and queer, I developed a sense of needing a saviour. Not only did I grow up disconnected from my religion, but as an autistic person, I also never fit into the queer community. Because of those feelings, the concept of a soulmate was the only thing that could save me from loneliness and desperation.
Section Titles
I've placed my poems into select sections with the following names: In the Arms of a New God, False Revelations, The Afterlove, Cuddleslut Blues, Second-Hand Stardust, Living Dead, and Blyss.
Throughout the sections, there is a theme of love being a higher power, with imagery lending itself to life in an expanding universe. Particularly, I've often looked at guys I was dating as they were godlike. I centre my life around them, as if they are the sun of my galaxy. There's also a contrasting darkness that comes from a sense of worthlessness from the void of such brightness.
